Joe did not have the name to match his talent back then so the risk/reward for Roy just wasnt there.

Joe was so far from Roy's radar it wasn't even a possibility.

Joe was a slightly better Sven Ottke back then. On paper anyway, and that's all people knew. Joe was unknown.

Bottom line is both guys did'nt seek challenges in their primes, they are both guilty of not proving themselves. Now they've waited to late because the senior citizen tour proves nothing for both of them, only that one has more left than the other.

THere are press clippings of JC saying that he "knew his limits" or something of that nature.

Because Jones would have completely destroyed him and made short work out of him, that's why.

Joe made sure Jones is beyond shot and isn't even 1% of what he once to finally make the fight happen. Ever wondered why Joe is only recently traveling to the USA for big fights?, it's because the opponents who were a threat years ago when he was SUPPOSED to fight them are now rotten old so he's just padding his record up with their names to make it look better in the long run.

Both their faults to some degree.

Joe wasn't as big a name then .

Roy didn't want to risk it for the small reward.

    He similarly avoided Darius M.

Joe didn't do much to make the fight happen and was content to stay in Wales.

Pre-2003 Jones would have easily beaten either of Joe or Darius.

joe was to chicken to do anything in his career except to listen to frank warren, he should of went to america way earlier in his career and got great fights but joe calzaghe knows he is best fighting mandatory and mandatory, pay check after pay check, but its also easy to now to call out the legends of the sport when there over the hill and live the rest of your days claiming yourself to be one of the greatest fighters ever

he got himself a sweet deal

Calzaghe's career was safety first, he'd never push for a fight against Jones where he was almost guaranteed to lose, he'd probably insist on level money as well. Nobody outside of the uk gave a **** about Calzaghe either so there was no demand. Now that Jones is badly faded calzaghe wants his name on the record. Sadly if he wins the british media will call it a defining win and make a huge deal out of it and the gullible average punter will go to his grave happily believing Calzaghe to be the Ray Robinson of his generation, instead of the no doubt talented guy who fought at home defending a meaningless title against at the very best average opposition

can someone please post the quote directly from calzaghe that he'd have to be offered all the jewels to risk a fight with RJJ?

Really I don't care about this fight! they are both past it! And Roy has all to gain from this fight!

I personally think that only fight that would matter for Joe now is Pavlick and then retire win or lose!
