I'm actually looking forward to the fight and think that Roy still has something left to make it a good fight.

In my opinion Calzaghe really screwed up with this latest ***** move of fighting RJJ instead of Pavlik. I say this for several reasons.

    1) Pavlik will beat BHop in far more convincing fashion than Joe did, and Taylor will humiliate Lacy. Those facts do a good deal of damage to Joe's so called "legacy" because joe talked about fighting Pavlik and Taylor, but fought neither.

    2) I know Kessler is held in almost god like reverence by many european fans, but the man is still very much an open question. Personally I think Pavlik and Taylor both beat Kessler, and I'll be surprised if Kessler accomplishes much in the future. There goes another slice of Joe's "legacy."

    3) Some of you will have to humor me a bit on this point, but a loss to Kelly Pavlik in a close fight would be a much more honorable way to leave the sport than a win over a completely shot Jones. And what if something bordering on the miraculous should happen, and Jones pulls of the win, and then gets destroyed by Pavlik?

    4) A least twice a month we see a thread all about how SRL ducked Pryor. If that urban legend grew to such proportions, imagine what people will be saying about the Pavlik/Calzaghe situation 10 years from now.

All I'm really saying is that, for a variety of reasons, Calzaghe will ultimately have no real legacy beyond that of a very good european level champion. That's to bad because the man does have real talent, but it's his own fault and no one elses.

I assure you if Jones was even 10% of what he once was this fight WON'T be signed.

joe was so off general public radar that even if they did fight in say 2000 (essentially he was totally unknown in the US) and jones cruised to an easy decision or even a KO, calzaghe would just be written off as another "nobody" with a padded record that jones defeated... but like jones said, "they accuse me of fighting nobodies? it's because i MAKE them look like nobodies"

joe would just be in a category with someone like clinton woods who actually came to america and got absolutely owned... i'm not comparing them talent-wise because joe is worlds ahead but i'm just saying public perception wise

Clinton Woods has better names on his resume than Calslappy. Sure he lost to them but at least he had a pair of balls. He actually fought Glen Johnson 3 times whereas Calslappy shamelessly ducked him twice.
