    He comes to fight.

He will fight just about anyone.

    He's cool looking. Kinda.

He handles himself with real class, dignity.

He's just beaten up a real boxing villian.

    He's really, really good.

I know there's the drugs shadow, but come on, that can't account for all of it? Guys should be God, right up there with Manny and Money.

I agree with all of this. It just doesn't make sense.

"He's too nice a guy" will be the easy answer, but that doesn't really cover it either.

If he puts Berto away I think he'll get his shot at Pac/Mayweather winner. That should put him right back in the mix at the "top" as he will be considered by many the true welterweight champ (since he actually fights at 147 and all). Not to mention, he'll hold the WBC strap. I like Mosely and think he deserves to fight the best in his division. If he keeps winning, the public will demand it. However, he may have to get past Cotto first, unfortunately.

It's suprising considering his talent, persona and looks. He does have everything...except star quality, which is a shame.

But he's already thrashed the world's then most popular fighter, seemingly with very little affect?

I can't explain it and it's a question I've tried to answer on numerous occasions. Just the other day, I was talking to somebody about Pacquiao and Mayweather, and I added that the winner should fight Shane Mosley (who stands a great shot at beating Pacquiao in my estimation). The guy, who claimed to be a boxing fan, didn't know who SSM was.

Shane had a top 3 performance of the year too. And made a 1-sided fight exciting.

That's an interesting answer. Perhaps he just doesn't fit into the easy-to-understand "role" that the general public likes their sports heroes to do.

    Too many inconsistent performances, and not enough quality wins. Let's look at his performances since his big win over Hoya in their first fight;

3 wins against decent fighters, 2 losses to Forrest, a NC, a controversial win over Hoya, 2 losses to Wright, 2 wins over decent fighters, 2 wins against washed up Vargas, 1 win over a decent and basically unkown Collazo, a loss to Cotto, a win in a boring fight in which he looked bad against a washed up Mayorga, exciting win over the popular Margarito(bu he hasn't fought for a year since that fight.)

You need to perform consistently well in big fights in order to gain popularity if you don't have a built in fanbase. Mosley has not done this. He had a chance to change that after beating Margo, but didn't capitalize on the win and sat idely for a year instead.

Only because no one will fight him! Because they claim he isn't marketable, which brings us right back to the original question

Well he was just on the way to super stardom when he got beaten by Forrest, which knocked him back. Well, he was top of the P4P pile anyway.

It's partly his willingness to fight the best, or take challanges (like Winky), means he doesnt protect his career. Boxing fans can appreciate how great it is to have a fighter with this attitude these days, but casual fans wouldn't know.

Also he doesnt have the trash talking, disrespecting your opponent type of personality. Even in the May-Marquez fight, Hopkins has to tell him to go over to Floyd. He has too much respect and dignity.

I love him for these things, but it holds him back
