Why on earth does anyone still consider Casamayor the champ 0f 135?

    1. He has no belts
    2. Juan Diaz has WBA, WBO, IBF and ring belts
    3. the "championship" status came from beating corrales who had just been KO'd twice. In the first fight against Castillo he kept his belt because an incompetent ref gave him 1 minute to recover and being KO'd and in the second because Castillo failed to make weight. In any case Casamayor never beat a champion
    4. He hasn't fought since that fight with Corrales (over a year ago) and his next fight is against a nobody who is 14-2-2. Even if you felt that beating Corrales did make him the man (which I strongly disagree with). You can't simply live off of one victory forever in such a talent rich division.

Diaz is the man at 135, plain and simple

Because he beat the lineal champion in Corrales.

Because he beat the then Undisputed Lightweight Champion, Diego Corrales.

Casa is the linear champ period end of discussion.:deal I would love for the baby bull to be the champ at 135 but he's not.

I wouldn't hold any water to that bud.

Corrales was overweight and the fight was made anyways, that was not a lightweight fight, which in turn was not for the championship at LW.

But since Corrales left it and did lose to a lightweight, we could probably say he is the champ, but its muddy.

QFT. If his desire is to be king of 135, he would still have to dethroan Casa. If he wants to be a bigger name and make more money, he would want to get Pac in the ring with him.

Anyhow, I think he beats Casa.

Corrales was only lineal because of BS teqnicalities. He should have been counted out in the first Castillo fight. The rules are that a fighter has to be on his feet and ready to fight after the 10 count. If he is spitting his mouth piece ot to buy time he should not be given an extra minute to recover. Not to mention he was KTFO again in the rematch, granted we can't count that because Castillo didn't make weight but IMO that broke the lineage (not to mention that if a fighter not making weight throws a title out the window, Corrales could not have been defending a lightweigth chapionship when he fought Casamayor since he did not make weight) and Juan Diaz has restarted it by unifying 3 major belts (he'll have a 4th if he fights David) and taking the ring belt.

Even Casamayor knows he doesn't stand a chance against Juan otherwise why would he go into hiding for a year and finally resurface against a guy with a 14-2-2 record

Diaz might be the best fighter at 135, but Casamayor is still the champion.

Casamayor was severely dicked over by the WBC for trying to unify with Freitas.

Casa is the lineal champion....but the lineal title isn't what it was with the politics of boxing these days.

I deem the champion as the person who defeated the previous champion. I still view Erdei as the light heavyweight champion and if I was old enough to remember the whole Tyson/Spinks fiasco, I would regard Spinks as the champion prior to their fight.

When it boils down to the champion being who you think is the best fighter, there's too much subjectivity going on. Much easier for people to form a general consensus going by the lineal method.

Juan is champ by default as I now think Juan is too much for Casa. Juan's jab is too good and his hand speed is sick.
