Think about it folks. Im sure Arum has thought long and hard about this fight along with getting a strong opinion from his matchmaker. Sure if Pac wins, the Top Rank train keeps moving on, but if he loses, and loses one sidedly, like Mosley for example, which is a good possibility, the future implications could be far more costly to Arum, his fighters and his company.
Right now Arum can match Pac with the likes of Josh Clottey level opposition and generate big money on PPV. Arum can do this till the cows come home, sign up fighters that he controls, and make tons of money off of both fighters and the promotion itself. Sure Pac gets a small cut of the tv proceeds, but his opponents dont, and he can still give them career paydays.
That all stops if Pac gets wiped out by Mayweather. In addition Mayweather wont allow him to reap most of the money from the PPV.
So why would Arum want to risk his cash cow that can support his entire stable of fighters for one fight? Why would he want to reduce Manny's drawing power and drag down his other fighters with him? Why would he want to give Mayweather more power in future fight negotiations and establish him as the clear #1 guy in boxing? If Mayweather loses, it will most likely not be from a one sided shalacking ala May/Mosley, but if Pac loses it most likely will. So the implications of a Pac loss could be far more damaging if he goes the way of Marquez or Mosley as opposed to a more viable rematch via Mayweather losing by knockout after being ahead on points or a quick knockout.
Its clear the potential dollars arent as attractive to Arum once he factors in his cut, so unless Manny pushes for the fight forget it. Arum says hes flying over to see Manny and support his campaign and wont talk about boxing? You better believe with the recent rumblings in the media that Pac did in fact say he would concede to Mayweathers 14 day test window, and you can also bet your ass his only intention is to go over there to talk about boxing and convince Manny he need not concede to Mayweather's drug testing requests.

Completely agree.....This has nothing to do with drug tests and everything to do with Bob Arum's greed and disdain for anything but his bottom line.

Not sure this makes sense. Pacman is running for congress and it's uncertain how much more he will fight.

On the other hand, a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would generate hundreds of billions in one go -- and would be worth at least 4 or 5 (I'm guessing, of course) Pacquiao-Clottey affairs.

I'm not saying Arum doesn't have an angle, but I don't see this is his motivation. Moreover, if Pacquiao wins, then he becomes even bigger and it would set up a series of lucrative rematches. Even if he loses, lucrative rematches would likely occur.

It really is the reason, and its ashame that it took people to see Mayweather fight Mosley to realize it had nothing to ever do with Mayweather being scared.

Arum likes to be in control, he is a business man. He'll want the fight to happen when Manny is ready to retire, not before (cuz he knows his chances). Manny's got several fights before then available to him:

    Cotto/Foreman winner
    MArgofuchimself
    Berto
    Bradley/Alexander
    Then Mayweather

I agree. Arum has work experience with both fighters, and he's been around boxing long enough to know how the fight would play out with their styles.

No to mention he has the best matchmaker in the game in Bruce Trampler.

The fight will generate a lot of money, but Arum will be sharing only Pacs take, not both fighters take, and ALL or most of the tv revenues.
The lifestyle that Pac lives and the money and people he supports, he will fight until he cant fight anymore, just like most ,if not all fighters of the past.

I think he would lose as badly as Mosley did after seeing the fight Saturday night, and I think Top Rank and company does too.
