Why Pacquiao has been so dominant...

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Indio-Bandido, Nov 14, 2010.

  1. I think i just figured out why Pacquiao has been so dominant since moving up in weight. It's because he's not dehydrating himself anymore and because he's not starving himself. I think this could be the main reason why he's looked like such a killer since he started climbing in weight. If i dont drink at least 2 liters of water after training i have a lot of trouble getting up in the morning and feel weak and lethargic. Thoughts??

He doesn't bruise easily either. That is a sign of being well hydrated.

Its not unreasonable to think that contributes to his dominance, but really it has much more to do with his blinding speed, power, skills, enthusiasm, and experience.

Yes, he is as strong as he can be. Plus he is just supernaturally tough AND he kept that speed, something a lot of guys don't keep when they aren't in peak condition because they tend to just pile on weight as a matter of course. I agree, he is at his best, but the problem is eventually a guy who is just too big is going to cut to a weight where the size and strength advantage is just too much. I feel like Arum is forcing him to constantly fight bigger and bigger and bigger guys until one day he gets unlucky.

    you got a good point...
He's literally fighting at his "natural" weight right now... he could have came in a bit more chiseled & muscled (he looked a bit softer than usual) and i think the distractions did alot of that. But there's benefits at least in fighting in your natural weight.

i believe he's athletically gifted also - extra strength, speed, stamina than the average person (outside of training). He's got a 23" reach from tip to pit? Margarito only had a 1/2" reach advantage! His abnormally long reach may also play a big role in his offensive positioning and opponents under-estimating his punching range....

Some true to that he also hasnt moved that much in weight recently he used to came to the ring at around 144/45 when he was fighting at Super feather and yesterday he only weighed 148 on fight night hes simply fighting bigger guys.

  8. the fact that he was a bit "soft" leads me to believe that the man is not on PEDs. steroids burn fat and add muscle. look at vargas when he fought de la hoya. or mosley when he fought oscar. they were ****ing ripped.

I agree but the question is, why arent more fighters doing the same thing? So I guess you'll need to maintain other aspects of your game as well like speed and power like Pac has.

Yep. Exactly what I think too.

Throw Marquez in there with Pac at 147 and watch him get knocked out for the first time ever.

He's a very talented fighter and like you say, does not drain himself to make weight anymore. This means he can use all his physical attributes to full effect. Way too many fighters rely on being bigger in the ring than their opponent, making the lowest weight they can, it makes no difference, if you are drained and not at your best, you ain't got any advantage, you are just a lesser version of yourself.

You think the same principle would apply to other fighters? You think Tim Bradley who is slightly bigger than Pac would be more successful if he stopped draining weight and started fighting guys who come into the ring at 160lbs?

Hes a throwback to Chamorrow man plus a little Spanish and Negrito hybrid vigor

The more work you do the more dense and heavy your bones are and the more muscle they can hold.

I knew he would whoop margo's overrated ass the second this fight was made, Pac is more skilled and talented than these guys, which is why he is whooping them.
