B-Hops name still generates publicity and money. For Pascal in terms of the fights he can accually get right now this is probably the most financially rewarding. If he can beat Hobkins in a good fashion it would do good things for his career/profile.

The problem with this is Hobkins is a master of making fights ugly if needed, no one is going to beat him easy and there is a good chance Pascal will lose.

I am not really interested in this fight, as is the case with many other posters on here but I can understand Pascal's situation.

i cant say it was one of mt fav fights, but if you cant apreciate it you might aswell watch k1. calzaghe fighting in a new wieght and in america for the first time against a great. hopkins fighting one of the best fighters of our era at his age. plus just the skill that was on display makes it a classic

    I'm not from Quebec.

And while Hopkins turned Calzaghe down in 02, I've never heard or seen anything that Jones did as well. To the contrary, Calzaghe himself has actually been quoted as saying he didn't want to fight Jones back then because it was too risky.

I disagree. I didn't see much to like about that fight. With Hopkins holding and game playing and Calzaghe flailing about with ineffective slaps, I could never bring myself to watch it again.(Calzaghe did deserve the win though).

As for the Hopkins/Pascal thing, Hopkins on any night can still be a spoiler and keep any fight close, maybe even win. But he is even more ancient than he was back in 08. At this point he is only a name. I think everyone knows this. And although it would not be a great shock if he was to pull an upset again, it seems to be the end of the line for Hopkins.

For Pascal, a win will not be considered a career defining fight, nor in the eyes of his fans will he be a legend killer or ATG because of it. If this ended up being Pascal's best win, you can bet your ass he would be criticized for it. (The Dawson win has already seen that it won't be.)

I wasnt on ESB back then, but it seems Calzaghe doesn't take as much criticism for fighting Hopkins as he does for the lofty claims that followed his unconvincing win against him.

Very true. B-Hop is still a household name in the USA, and Pascal should make 2.6 millions, maybe 3 millions with PPV in Québec and live gate $$.

    I'm dead serious.

Compare this (in no particuliar order): (old) Silvio Branco, Carl Froch, Diaconu x2 (second time with a broken and dislocated shoulder), (old) Hopkins, Dawson x2.

To this (in no particular order): Sakio Bika, Jeff Lacy, Chris Eubank, Byron Mitchell, Mikkel Kessler, (old) Hopkins, (shot) Jones Jr.

I think we can agree that's very close, and remember Pascal is only 28 whereas the Welchman is an already old cockhead.

Because it took a long time for age to catch up with him, and now that it has a lot of boxfans still don't want to believe that.
If you look at his 2 fights after he beat mw Pavlik ( back in 2008 ), it's clear B-Hop is well and truely past it.

Why would someone get discredit for defending his WBC title against Chad Dawson and Bernard Hopkins back to back in a period of 4 months?

What the **** is boxing coming to

    We're all haters.

I hate Andre Ward and his ugly-ass boxing style. He 'fights' like a ***** and 'adapts' by roughhousing his opponent to protect his glass jaw. He's a (not even that strong a) punch away from being another american hypejob.

As for as Pascal.. what can you say? He comes to fight and doesn't fight dirty but still gets as much **** as Ward. I just can't understand.

Pascal gets nowhere near the hate that Ward gets. Either way, what I find ridiculous is that pro fighters get called pussies.
