Lineal Champ vs Lineal Champ Cotto hasn't fought a live body since moving to WW. And the only live body he fought at Jr WW gave him hell and Torres took the fight on short notice. Cottos camp didnt do their homework and almost watched Cotto lose his 0
my understanding o far is that because floyd didnt fight in the 80's or earlier that is the reason for his downfall. he will never be an atg because he was born in the wrong decade. or is it that if he got into more blood and guts wars and loss a few and had rubber matches he would be great. i'm confused i thought Rocky marciano was a great he didnt have any losses.
all bs aside. i'm a youngster, born in the mid 80's. but i'm more than sure there were similar arguments to go along with all of the rest of the atg's. i heard stuff about srl from uncles and my friends parents and he is still regarded as an atg and ali was the biggst trash talker of all time and comletely full of himself and hated by as many as those who loved him. in 10 or 15 years boxing will speak about flyd mayweather and him being one of the greatest to ever to put on a pair of gloves and there will be some new star in on the rise that will laim to be greater and we will all be in for this same conversation and comparing not only to srl but to pbf as well.
You seem to be as obsessed with the pretty boy as Presscott is with the Golden boy. Given that Floyd's career is still in progress and we don't yet KNOW how it will end, your first poll choice is just plain stupid. And you don't make a very objective poll. There's no choice on there that doesn't bear out your point. Sorta like making a poll such as : 1) Oirishman is not too bright 2) Oirishman is slow-witted You Decide.
1. Lineal Champ vs. Lineal Champ 2. What the **** did Leonard do to deserve a shot at the MW title against Hagler?
even if this is a thread fueled by hate, everything the man says is true. To even think Money May could come close to Ray Leonard with his current attitude then you're moron. Sorry.
Leonard has advantages. Hagler, Duran and Hearns were in his era. Arguably, the best Middleweight ever, the best Lightweight ever and the best Light Middleweight ever. They are at least Top3 in their weight divisions. Who are great fighters in Mayweather's era? Guys that were too small, like Morales and Barrera (in 2000-2004), Pacman (a potential PBF-Pacman fight was criticized by fans). Then...you also have De la Hoya, and guys that are too big: Hopkins, Calzaghe, comparable to guys like Michael Spinks in the 80s. And maybe Cotto, who I think will become a great fight in the future. The truth is that the only meaningful fight left for MM is Cotto. Mayweather-Cotto would be huge. I don't care about the rest. HOWEVER, having MM fight De la Hoya is better than just seeing him semi-retired for one year.
I agree with you, but it's clear really don't like floyd so one might get the feeling you are a bit biased when comparing these particular fighters....but Floyd doesn't stand a chance at being above Ray b/c Ray faught in the most talented and competitive error of boxing.
Yeap he did...in the mataeurs and Pro..but if you notice I mentioned he always fought the one going up in weight...I agree, he never gave Benitez a rematch also
If the great fighters are not there, then you fight the best on your division, and taht brings: Cotto, Williams, SSM, Cintron and Margarito to the equation, theya re the very best of his contemporaries in the disivison..you want legacy..you fight them...plain and simple
Sugar Ray Leonard ducked Aaron Pryor and instead of fighting him moved up to middleweight to take on who is widely recognised as one of the greatest middleweights of all time. And all of this after a 4 year lay off. Shame on Ray.
No, actually he didn't duck Pryor at all. Pryor was not a big name at all in those days, and was a smaller opponent. You're saying he ducked Pryor to fight guys like Hearns and Duran, better fighters than Pryor? Ridiculous. Pryor was not a big name at all when Pryor called him out, it was not taken seriously at the time by anyone. Only later on when people realized Pryor was a great fighter after beating Arguello did they start to bring that up. At the time it was no duck.
