    Dawson's a 'proven fighter' but Kessler isn't? That's a reach.

Same like Taylor (who recently lost 2x to Pavlik) is more proven than Hopkins (who previously beat Tarver and Wright) ....

Those who know boxing respect him.
Those who look at passports do not.
    Simple as that.

Well, i never said Kessler wasn't proven. I would just like to see him beat a couple of more proven fighters to really convince me. But like i said, that's just me. I think most people already consider him truly great. I don't.

Joe holds the distinction of being a VERY GOOd fighter who is also very over rated. The fact that he stayed in Wales so much of the time does not help him. Here he is facing the end of a good career, but still trying to establish a legacy. Beating Kessler and BHop just isn't enough to put him above hall of fame level, and yet tons of people keep referring to him as an all time great. If you look at some other all time great fighters such as Arguello, Duran, Hearns, Haglar, Ali, Robinson, et, Joe's accomplishments just don't stack up against them.

So who should Calzaghe fight before end of his career to match other ATG fighters? Will Dawson, Johnson, Jones, Pavlik, Tarver ... any one/all of them give proper ATG status for Calzaghe?

Errr, within 2 years he has jumped from not being seen anywhere near the top 10 p4p to no.2 p4p. What do you mean by not getting proper credit?

Me and my cousin had this argument the other day about him vs Pavlik. He was saying Pavlik will kill him. I said u are crazy because Pavlik style is so predictable and Calzaghe throws punches from all angles. But the truth is that he only seen Calzaghes last fight with Lacy and so on. Were I have all his fights. He just thinks so because he is Euro probably

Beat Pavlik in Ohio, or beat Pavlik in Vegas, and any other guy on your list except Jones. Roy Jones was amazing in his time, but his time is OVAAAH!

I never said Tarver or Johnson was trash, I was giving Tarver some credit in one thread where you were bashing him. I said Tarver was not and never was an elite fighter, but a good, top fighter. Same with Johnson, I've never mentioned he was an unworthy contender.

Taylor and Pavlik irritate me because of how sickeningly overrated they are for being the best in a mediocre division.

I think Calzaghe has received recognition/credit for his accomplishments, but he's still not widely respected for a few reasons.

Nationality, lack of wins over big names, fighting style all play into this. Too many people appreciate the KO's more than the decision wins.

Decisions can often be disputed, where KO's rarely can. People want to see their favorite fighter go in and punish the opposition, possibly even see him take some punishment at the same time. They want the fighter to be a modern gladiator. And this just isn't Calzaghe.

This makes no sense to me.

Both Johnson and Tarver were torn new assholes by Hopkins, the man Calzaghe just defeated. Why would a decorated champion like Joe Calzaghe have to fight unproven Dawson to get your respect also? Dawson is in the same situation Jeff Lacy was before Joe defeated him, and it wasn't until that beating that people discredit Lacy as a fighter. Joe ruined him.

It's alright saying Joe has only beaten Lacy, Kessler, and Old Hopkins but look at the facts. Both Lacy and Kessler were unbeaten, and many people picked both of them to win. Also, Hopkins is past his prime, but he was coming off victories over Winky Wright and Tarver. That is to Joe Calzaghe's credit.

Joe should takes fights with both Pavlik and Dawson, because they are both fights he can win and it would solidify him as the best.
