Two things going on here. Charlie Zelenoff is an exhibitionist. He was lucky Wilder and his thugs didn't kill him. You can see by the way Wilder is behaving, though, that he is not the way he publicly portrays himself. He definitely comes off as a thug who, given the chance, would try to kill this guy if the cameras weren't rolling. I suspect Zelenoff was trying to get Wilder to hurt him but not kill him so he could sue Wilder for big bucks.

He wanted to scare the **** out of Charlie.. and he did.

I think people are jealous of his physical gifts. He's always the bigger guy. People tend to root for David against Goliath, unless they are biased by (usually nationalistic) prejudice.

If he faces Klitschko (the bigger guy), perhaps the majority of posters here will support him (though they won't pick him).

People also (often justifiably) resent privilege, and to some extent Wilder's had that. He got a (gift) bronze in the Olympics and he has been coddled for much of his career.

Looking forward to seeing more of Wilder. Breath of fresh air for the heavyweight division.

    Re: Why people hate Wilder?

Because it's hard for a lot of people to understand how someone who has just won the heavyweight title feels the need to prance around the ring beating his chest screaming out, “who can't box!” over and over, I guess directed at the media sitting ringside who dared to criticize him prior to the fight. People don't understand how someone who has achieved such great success can at the same time have thin skin. Why anyone who dares to criticize becomes a hater?

The answer is not because he's a bad guy, it's because he has been coddled, just like a lot of promising young athletes in the USA. He's surrounded by people who refuse to say anything negative when it's exactly what a young man needs to develop into a solid character.

I don't know, I find it hard to dislike him. His facial expressions, his bravado, his willingness to fight inside as a tall guy.

As for legs, I am sick of hearing people that don't know/understand boxing that his legs are too thin. You ****ers don't know a thing about physiology of boxers, they are not supposed to have tree trunks since they put their legs through excruciatingly taxing conditioning that leaves only the fast twitch muscles and shreds off the fat.

BTW, In case no one has read any of my other posts; I'm a Wilder fan. Then again, Adrian Broner cracks me up too, and I know most people can't stand him.

Why not? You think race plays no part on why Wilder is hated?

People is hating on the man because he dares to be himself and he's a very real threat to that fraud Wlad. Give the man two more years and some good twelve rounders and he will be unstoppable. They will have to stop hyping them bums from the UK and Europe and live with the fact that the USA is back where it's supposed to be. On top and living large. No country on the planet brings more glamour and excitement to the heavyweight division than America. We were made for this, so can take all them robotic, stiff, wannabes and put them back in the B league where they belong. We bout to set this shiiit on fire.

 Pretty ironic for a Wilder fan throwing out insults like "fraud".

Two guys just fought over a paper belt last night, a runner up belt, get a grip.

His critics (yourself included) shouldn't be so thin-skinned that they take offense at being called haters.

Guy gets barbs thrown at him constantly, no matter what he says or does get more hate (from the press, from the keyboard warriors) ... and he (like any good and reasonable athlete would) uses that for fuel to drive himself to work harder and improve himself ... to prove those critics wrong -- and then those he proves wrong now sit back and say "Well gee, look at the guy making a big deal out of this ... that's a good reason to hate him."

Haters gonna hate, but they really, truly need to not get their panties in a wad for being called out for what they are.
