Why people in USA love athletic freaks much more than good boxers?

Look, guys like Hurd or Charlos brothers have way more fans in USA than the guys like Michael Hunter who is an excellent boxer., much more skilled than either of those guys. What people find in those guys who are winning their fights purely on size/strength advantages?

Or another example: Teofimo Lopez and Davin Haney. Teo is very athletic guy, but his skillset is VERY far from impressive. Davin Haney is an excellent, extremely skilled boxer with great ring IQ and his style is very pleasant to watch. Yet people are talking way more about Teo than about Haney, who would whoop his ass easily whenever they'll fight.

    They think Athleticism > Boxing

Which is wrong, and it's shown

Anthony Joshua is the perfect example in the UK.

Simple. People can't appreciate the absolute skill and effort it takes to even approach boxing mastery, skill wise. It's much too subtle, and they don't understand how to read it.

Meanwhile, athletic freaks look like supermen, usually against substandard competition, and fans love to watch and live through them vicariously. It's an 'ideal' in their mind.

Hunter isn't a champion and competes will far better competition under the radar. The others you said are in title fights .If Hunter becomes champion which isn't likely he still wouldn't have a style that fans are going to see at Heavyweight but will be better liked then say a Wilder who really cant box to a above decent standard to what people are used to seeing. His one thing he does best is pick out openings but hes getting out boxed ,no one really wants to see it and that's why even with the knockouts he isn't a sell. You have to have a long history to actually get appreciated in boxing and have that reputation ,most younger fans here will side with PBC because they are in spot light more but overall outside social media it doesn't really matter people just want competitive fights and will know a mismatch when they see it.

Being athletic is part of boxing ,if you can do both then that makes you harder to defeat RJJ was a perfect example of this . In the U.S the hard cores don't really care ,they would rather see mismatches or very poor skill as long as THEIR guy wins ,they aren't true boxing fans usually. In the end its who has the loudest bark that fans will talk about, their not overly bright over here and that's bc its a newer generation of not so intelligent group of people that spread stupidity and it s like a virus ,don't tell me its not bc im in the states .

Everytime I see a boxing gym in the states on many you tube channels where they are randomly asked questions inside for opinions, there's never a shortage of dimwits that get referred to as experts or knowledgeable people and these are fighters, trainers etc , no wonder everyone lables us the dumbest fans over here bc these are getting the attention put on them ,these ppl don't know much outside their gym or the U.S so they have no understanding what they are talking about which comes back around to your questions answer ,which is they support the fighters they know not the fighters that are better for the sport.

Must be lots of Adam Smith type fans in USA - there to admire the booty not the ability.

Only wilder fans can go off on a statement that directly talks about them ,themselves and not realize it. Its a reason they really should stay away from ANY comparisons because it will never go good and the post above I have includes THOSE types of fans .

    1. He's not. He'd be lucky to make top 25 Pfp.
    2. He's litterally the opposite of your statement,
    Wilder does not display this.

OK, what does he do well to make him so great ?

    let's hear this then?

I'm truly embarrassed for boxing having him as WBC champ to be quite Frank, and that's legit. I am.. It's cringe, especially when you hear him speak, it's all a bit bizarre.

We hate them but boxing survives on its appeal to casual fans. Casual fans want a spectacular KO. Athletic freaks provide this.
