    Briggs....what is the end goal?

Anyone who has stepped into the ring for the ultimate challenge knows what the addrenalin rush does to the senses.
We see come back after come from legends who dominated in thier prime right through in most cases til they step out of the ring either reluctantly or willingly.

The Briggs comeback is full of sentiment on the Aussie ESB.......this is awfully dangerous for a mans health when being pitted against a fighter who is somewhat near the top of thier game.

Briggs has made no comments regarding his reason or intentions for re entering the ring.
Is this simply dogged pride or a pay day or perhaps dilussional pride.

Without understanding why a retired fighter would get back in the ring after 3 years off I cant help but think this is just a pay day and a closing of a final chapter on the boxing legend which is Briggs.

As much as Briggsy is talking up a war and certainly in the past knew no other way, what you've written above is certainly a concern.

It is definately a good question for Briggsy 'what if you win this one, where to from there'.

But I guess his answer would be that he's fully focussed on this and not getting ahead of himself.

...just hoping it's a healthy outcome whoever wins.

A bit of the old Jimmy Carrothers Sally? Straight at the target and don't stop til it's totally destroyed.

Green only knows one style of fight.

He once tried the other way and got taught a lesson in pugilistic boxing...European style.

The war will come to Briggs whether he likes it or not....Green will finish this fight in under 6 rounds.

tom had nothing left. he was about to get smashed....so gave up.

with carrothers, we'll never know, cause it worked.

could briggs 'cold catch' green...? absolutely!!! and i hope he tries it. it'll be a hagler/hearns all over again. and probably pauls best chance.

    Agree...:good

Couldn't imagine for a minute Briggs would get through 12 rounds with Green fighting style....he would need some serious rounds in prep under his belt to even contenplate it.
This could be an ATG (but short) fight with many big shots and an early finish.

Green's chin is rock solid.....it will be goodnight Briggs, lets hope his leaves with his faculties still intact and slips back into commentating where he should have stayed.

green is getting a bit overstated in my opinion here. he's 37 fought **** all rounds against **** all names - when was his last hard fight - roy excluded but even that was only 2mins worth.

I know its a tough ask and would have preferred briggs get a fight before, but its not as though briggs is getting back in the ring against a all time great.

An Aussie version of Hagler v Hearns has a nice ring to it.

Would be brilliant if they could put on one of those 'short fight' wars-for-the-ages.

...but I hope they've both still got their health at the end of it.

Couldn't agree more, Green has done nothing of late (ever!) to prove that he's anything special.
Briggs even in average shape should be able to go more than a few rounds with him, and in peak shape should be able to win.

here is a post from Ipswich Express who knew his trainer when he retired.

Over the last 2 weeks ive had subconcious thoughts about paul in training that he's not responding how i think he should be which was confirmed this week in sparring.
There were rumours as to Pauls health problem regarding his nervous system and i can verify that there is a problem there as ive seen it with my own eyes! it's something most of us cant understand as it hasnt happened to us it affects his overall body mechanics to where he's so filled nervous tension that his body cant respond eg being able to see things and react to it.
After seeing this today i had no hesitation in telling Paul to call it a day as he also knew it was anyway!
Paul gave it one last shot and was dead serious which could have been fatal as we've seen in to many cases over the years, its now Pauls turn to sit back without any doubts in his mind and bask in the glory of a fabulous care
er and be healthy and excited about the new chapter in he's life.

    From his trainer...

sounds like he had serious health problems.lets hope its not a money driven reason and his health is back to normal and he wants to make a serious go with this comeback.

Without a doubt, if he still has the symptoms of 3 years ago then he's in big trouble, and downright stupid.
However if he is healthy, and is in even 95% shape, he's going to give Green a very tough night and come home with the win IMO.

    Finally some words from Briggs.

Todays Sunday Times has several quotes form Briggs re his health and his reasons for giving it away in 2007.
He had a lot on his mind at the time, marraige failure, court action against former manager and loss of passion for the sport.

That's all good and weel but he will still get a hiding from Green.

This is a pay day first and foremost.

    Sportsbet:

    Green $1:15
    Draw $26.00
    Briggs $5.00

    The odds speak volumes.
