Why is it that we continue to suffer RJJ making up nonsense in the booth when the intelligent and articulate Ward is available? Every time I watch a HBO broadcast I'm a little angry because of RJJ and now, having listened to Ward this past weekend, it made me even angrier.
That you can tell he's just making things up. Like when Kellerman would ask him something he would never consider saying "I don't know" if he actually didn't know, he'd just make something up. He's a nice guy, but he's not very bright and he just makes things up to fill his announcer role.
I've said it before. Ward is much more articulate. I don't really mind though. I come for the fights not the commentators.
I like both gents but the public gets some classic one liners from Roy. By the way, Roy knows boxing.
I agree with this but i like him in the booth. His inexplicable laughing during Lomachenko-Salido was ****ing brilliant. It all starts between the tenth and eleventh. JL: Even if Lomachenko and his father believe he needs a knockout win...i'm not sure he can go for it, under these circumstances. RJ: Ha! *silence* Then, at the beginning of the eleventh, Max does his whole impassioned speech thing and it's not bad actually. MK:This is what Lomachenko wanted, to win a title as a pro and wanted to do it right away well here it is Lomachenko! You're in against a tough guy who didn't show up to lie down, he's probably beating you, he's bigger than you, he's stronger than you, he's much more experienced - these are the championship rounds, you've never been this deep into a fight. What are you going to do about this? You asked for it you got it. *silence* RJ: HAHAHAHAHA! Then, near the end of the round: RJ: Making him burn a lot of energy trying to pull those hands back... MX: That's right, I was about to say. RJ: Hahahaha. So it's the end of the eleventh and you kind of know we are in for a dramatic last round and there's quite a lot of feeling around regarding the referee and other ****. Big twelfth! Time to deal with the issues of the day. Very serious. A young man's dreams are being shattered. JL: Well, I hate to say it, but Laurence Cole has just done his normal dreadful job. RJ: HAHAHAHAHA! More ridiculous refereeing from Cole actually brings to the HBO commentary team the notion that there may be corruption in the air, something they never express live. MK: Oh my god. JL: Oh my God, what is Cole doing!? RJ: Ha! He buying Salido some time! MK: That's what it looks like! RJ: HeheheHAHAHAHAhehe! JL: Unreal. But finally, it's time for Jim to summarise what he's seen: JL: A terrific attempt at a comeback for Lomachenko and a dreadful refereeing job from Cole... RJ: HAHAHAHAHAHA... JL: ...everything we might have expected to see... RJ:...hahahahaha... JL: ...and more... RJ: Hahahaha.
I don't know how you've come to the conclusion that he isn't very bright. He may not be everyone's favourite commentator, but Roy's very intelligent.
You know he didn't mean anything by it. Of course Roy himself is black, and it was actually a compliment.
I laughed real hard when he said letting Algieri out of his cage was like letting a wolf out of his cage into a bear pen.
RJJ is the best and makes HBO what they are. I don't want Ward on my tv...hell i no longer want to see him fight either. He just needs to go away.
