Why Sam Peter's win over Maskaev isn't that great.

Because he was old, slow and chinny.

He did however beat the man who chased Vitali out of Boxing.....oh wait....

He still beat Rahman who was looked at as a threat back then and a "serious" challenge, Maskaev was a heavy underdog as far as I remember. I know he was too old and the win isn't anything to brag about but he beat a champion in the end.

Maskaev had Rahman's number...well so did most every other boxer with a pulse.

Maskaev was a ***** that night, constantly complaining about being hit behind the head, yet he constantly had his head down fighting Peter, and in the end got what he deserves. It was nice to hear unbias Manny Steward comment how Peter's punches are fine and explained to the viewers watching at home why it happens, that being a combination of long arms for his size as well an awkward punching style.

I thought Samuel fought a pretty good fight that night, which I had a shutout coming into the 6th round, just like the judges had. It wasnt Peter's best performance, but it was pretty good and ended with a knockout.

I'll only disagree and ask you to watch when Maskaev was on the ropes, and Peter hit him on the back of the head while he was facing Peter. After that he turned and put his hand behind the head to protect it and Peter continued to hit him behind the head over and over.

You can bet on Saturday the referee isn't going to let that happen, because Vitali and his team will be raising holy hell, and Vitali WILL retaliate.

Guru it's a fight, there not playing tiddlywinks in there, of course fouls are going to happen, they happen in every contact sport, it's inevitable. I think if you look at any top fighter, they all have tactics they use that could have points taken away if a ref wanted to, Wlad is no different, laying on fighters backs, excessive clinching. I can name a 100 great fighters that use questionable tactics to gain an upperhand, it's just part of boxing, deal with it. Thats why football is turning into such a sissy sport, now you cant even touch the quarterback without getting a 15 yard penality and a possible 20,000 fine, sports are meant to be played hard, if you cant handle it, get the **** out.

Emannuel made it clear even that Maskaev was the one kneeling with his head and positioning his self to get hit there, Toney did it A LOT too. You keep doing it and expect Sam to stand and smile?, of course he'll hit you there if you don't know how to protect yourself good enough. Those punches are timed so are the fighter's movement and when he positions his self to get hit there then he'll take some. Really doubt all are on purpose, as Punisher said it's a fight in there and ugly stuff should be expected.

I agree the win was nice for Peter. However Peter is a foul punch fighter. He aims behind the head un-purpose. He did it in many fight where the other fighter was not keeping his head low.

I do not think Peter's rabbit punches will be a factor it this fight. Vitlai does not rest on the ropes like Toney, or get low. He fight big and off the ropes.

I will take Manny Stewards opinion over yours, and thats no disrespect to you, because I enjoy your posts in the classic forum. Samuel is still a little raw, I will give you that, but I dont think he aims for the back of the head for the most part, alot of times fighters will put there head down (Wlad, Toney), which gives him no choice, but to hit behind the head. I think it was clear to anyone that seen the Maskaev fight, that the guy didnt want to be there and he fought like it, complaining about every little thing and not fighting back as much as he should.

I dont know if Peter will hit Vitali behind the back, but I do know Vitali is a real man and tough ass fighter in the ring, instead of complaining like girl to the ref, he's the type of fighter that will do the justice with his fists, and that is one of the few things I respect about him. It should be one hell of a fight and I'm greatly looking forward to seeing it this weekend.

You rank peter and Rahman just a little low..Rahman is inconsistent but still no slouch with big power.Peter is a paper champ but still a good heavyweight, he's just taking advantage of that weak ass governing body.
