Why Sam Peter's win over Maskaev isn't that great.

I woudn't really call Peter a paper champion since all those titles were vacated by Lewis long ago and we still don't have an official main champion in the division. Wladimir is getting close but Peter still has his version of a title like Wladimir and Valuev do.

It doesn't need to be a GREAT win. Most wins on most great boxers AREN'T.

 

Peter fights to the level of his opponent IMO.. Maskaev did not press the issue so Peter took his time and waited for him. Against Toney he was throwing much faster shots because toney pressed the action to a degree that maskaev did not

The most amazing thing is that Rahman couldn't take him out. Twice.

Peter got the win and you give him credit for that, but Oleg isn't the hardest guy in the world to hurt.

 

I cannot believe how much hate there is for Samuel Peter on this message board. The topics, the jokes that aren't funny, the avatars that show that people have way too much time on their hands, the insults. Amazing.

 

How said this victory was great?????

 

Who really thought Maskaev would win. I mean I thought he had a chance, indeed I was actually hoping he could pull it off. But realistically I thought Peter would win by KO inside 6 rds.

 

Honestly, most boxing observers refer to this fight in relative terms, but in reality this fight was garbage. It proved nothing. Both men look slow and sloppy. The only reason why this fight was not criticized more, was because of the eventual knockout. The Klitschko/ Ibragimov fight showed more skill and received harsher criticism. The big O and Peter, on that night, looked bad.

I felt embarassed for both fighters while watching this fight.

 

Pretty much the same people that are now predicting certain doom and making umpteen derisive topics for Peter against Vitali.

Vitali's got a stronger chance of course but damn, some people really really need to find new material. Sam's fat, you don't like rabbit punches and you think he's slow. WE'VE HEARD THAT.

As I've said before, Peter is made out to be such a pathetic stumbling joke of a fighter by certain fans that you'd have to be utterly shameless to turn around and celebrate a victory over him...not that it will stop them. Ridiculous.

 

Peter just fights who is put in front of him, he has beaten everyone up to date, and the one he didn't is now the other alphabetic champ and when they fought , Peter dropped him heavy on a few occasions..

Easy routes, garbage opposition .. whatever.. Peter was made to wait it out for his shot and now he is a success and acheived his goal, he is given greif for who he beat.. Please ..!!

Peter still honours him and is in his own backyard fighting overseas..

So many haters..... Its sad.....
