i dont like the fact though that the maximum limit for a welterweight here cant be reached(147). Its been agreed at 145 maximum therefore i feel its no longer a 'proper' welterweight bout.

    Based upon what?

NOT the entire weight of the history of boxing, clearly.

If the fight is between 140 and 147 it is a welterweight title fight according to every by-law and precident in rules and history of the sport.

Bah who cares Manny is the number one pound 4 pound champion.

Cottos title means nothing. Berto has a title, Mosley has a title, etc has a title. Bah a random guy in the street has a title.

This just shows how pathetic boxing has become. People actually caring about worthless titles.

i don't think it should. i understand that anywhere between 141 and 147 is a welterweight fight, but if cotto has to come down to 145 (which i don't really see a reason for to begin with), he shouldn't have to put his belt on the line. if it's for his belt the fight should be on his terms... regardless of who the bigger draw is or if he's fighting the p4p #1.

The title should be on the line because it adds to the promotion first and foremost. Secondly, a fight of this magnitude gives the title meaning and context to the people; more meaning than defeating Jennings to pick up the vacated title. Lastly, if Cotto were to lose, the belt would be even more meaningless than it already is and thus I don't why Cotto, as prideful as he is, would want the distinguishment as "champion" after suffering a defeat in the biggest fight of his life up to this point.

I think Cottos title should be on the line. as long as yoou way between 141-147 then its a WW fight. so if Cotto wants to agree to a catch weight at 145 then his title should be on the line

He doesn't have to put his belt on the line.

Hence the fact that it would be a 'voluntary defence' were he to choose to do so.

Clue is in the name, see.

Well, both of them will be above 145 fight night anyhow. What a farce the "limits" are anyhow. Other than that, EVERYTHING is negotiable.

145 is still WW. Does not matter due to Cotto leaving the ring with the belt and a KO win.
