I've been skimming through the forums and I feel I must be the only person who thinks Haye should go up to a maximum 220lbs. I think if he bulks up to much he'll lose his speed. Evander Holyfield managed to beat some top heavyweights while staying below 220lbs. When Evander lost to lewis he was under 220lbs and I dont remember him being pushed around by lewis. Chris Byrd also knocked out Vitali when he weighed 215lbs. So 225lbs I think would be to much. I think all Haye needs is to get use to the size of other heavyweights. There was a couple of times in the early rounds when barret went kamakaze on haye and haye seemed to panic. I think if he keeps sticking to his angles and moving his feet the way he did against barret he'd stop most heavyweights from being able to sit on there punches and land maximum power (he'll keep them unbalanced), not only that he'd confuse and tire most of these fat heavyweights out. Especially the peters, rahman and even mccline of the heavyweight division (notice I didnt mention Vitali)
No,you're not alone. Most on here dont think he should go too high either. Most Esb'ers are more knowledgeable than that.
Try putting this thread on the 'general', Sad mate,You'll get more feedback; The British can be like a ghost town, im afraid.
No.. 215-220 pounds is spot on. Just what the **** is a extra 10 pounds going to do..? **** all It's all about functional mass, and David Haye is functional at 215.
over 220 and i think we could see a loss in speed which is what is makinging him a good HW atm. if he loses the speed he is carrying up from cruiser then he is no better than the rest of the contenders out there.
Bingo this is very true. He may be better heavier or even lighter. No one will know that other that David. If the added bulk isnt functional then theres no point in putting on weight for the sake of it. The one thing i reckon he could do very well with is a power lifting routine that could build on his physical strength.
Obviously not. Its amazing to see the stance taken by members on this board purely by what they`ve read from someone else...
I reckon so. Davids best work is from the outside using his natural talents. But he could do with the extra physical strength so he doesnt get bullied by bigger heavys and rough housed on the inside the way Monte did.
Given what we saw from Haye at 215 in the Barrett fight, I think he stay stay at that weight. Anything between 215-220.
I dont think well see Haye go much above 220 until later in his career if he even lasts that long. He`s a relatively small heavy but it does suit him.
He doesn't need to. Remember though, he is getting older. Also, he isn't going down to 200 anymore so he'll be staying at a high weight all year round. Personally, I hope he doesn't go past 225 max. There just isn't a need. The bigger and stronger he gets than he'll lose out in speed, stamina etc It just isn't worth it.
what about increasing the muscle on his legs rather than upper body. This should increase his punch resistance and also stop him from being pushed around. Of course if he does effectively so that it isn't detramental to his speed. But don't see how it can be if its purely on his legs and maybe back
His handspeed is possibly his best asset, I don't mind him getting a little heavier/more muscular if needed but really it has to serve that. Anything that makes him punch slower should be very much avoided I feel.
