Why shouldn't Floyd think he's better than Ali and SRR?

I'm a fan, but even I don't believe him when he says that. I know he's doing it to sell tickets and motivate himself.

Moar headaches for people who actually do take it to their heads when he says that.

People are posting on here like Mayweather is the only boxer who evaluates who they fight next by risk/reward. Isn't that the smart way to be looking at things?

I'm just saying I don't think anyone with a brain believes it, especially Mayweather.

DLH fighting Mosley off a winning streak.
Wlad fighting Brewster on medical suspension in the US.
    Hopkins fighting Wright at 170.
Hopkins fighting Roy Jones after multiple kayo losses.
And Arum and Warren steering Cotto and Hatton away from Mayweather at 140 when they were the #1, #2, #3 fighters there.
    Mayweather fighting JMM at welterweight.

People hated a young Cassius Clay when he would shout that he's the greatest of all time, they thought he was arrogant but he had confidence. I agree with you 100%

Because he didn't face the same caliber of opponents. Ali took down Patterson, Liston, Frazier, Foreman... Who are all in the "best of all time" category of fighter. Robinson's sheer number of dominance by fights(202W19L109KO) and defeats of fighters like LaMotta, Basilio, Fullmer, Armstrong, Graziano, and Gavilian put him in a completely different universe than mayweather.

Seriously, you're talking about two fighters who dominated in an era full of incredible, ATG worthy fights versus Mayweather. That's not to say he isn't a top-tier fighter... His records and skills speak for themselves. But the fact of the matter is that he hasn't faced the same level of challenges. Maybe if he were to take on Pacquiao i'd change my opinion somewhat. But in today's world where boxing is at a lower level overall than what it once was, I can't even put him in a top ten ranking.

  8. Because he fights in an era that is nowhere near as competitive against boxers who are less skilled and tough than they were in the past. At no stage has Mayweather demonstrated that he can come through adversity not because he is so 'great' but because the opposition has not been up to the standard that it should have been. Ray Robinson would have murdered him in a 15 fight as would Hearns, Ray Leonard, or any other great from the past.

C'mon now, i doubt floyd would get murdered. It's obvious that the dude has top-notch skills and athletic ability.... He'd put up a damn good fight and definitely would have a chance to win against someone like Hearns or Leonard. He's not an average fighter, regardless of era.

  10. He hasn't got the experience against top level fighters that previous generations did. Honestly think that Robinson would beat the crap out of him.

Mostly because he's not. It's that simple.

What he fights for is almost irrelevant because top level opposition goes hand in hand with top level earnings.

People said he should fight Mosley and he is
Pac will most likely be next should he beat Mosley

These two fighters represent the biggest paydays available to him right now and are also the biggest challenges, why he is fighting them makes no difference to me whatsoever.

Because no rational person could possibly examine both careers and come to the conclusion that Floyd Mayweather was better than Sugar Ray Robinson.
