    Why so many catchweight fights?

Im not a fan of catchweight fights or fighters going into divisions that they have not established themselves into for one off fights, or agreeing fights at odd, over or under weights, or stipulations on rehydration levels, but what is so disappointing for me, is that so many of the top fighters and fighters that I am a fan of, have been involved in some fights like this.

What is everyone elses opinions on these type of match ups?
Some will say if the best fight the best etc, but theres a good chance one fighter will not be at their best in that particular match up.

Catchweigh is s**t The more marketable fighter with the bigger name and more money will always try to get advantage out of it.

Just imagine when there were less weight divisions. So many other weight divisions came about to prevent such a size/weight difference between opposition, yet here we are with catchweights still

Boxing could be slowly creating new weight divisions by desensitizing the fans until they see these weights so much. Then out of nowhere, they'll start calling it by it's new division name that they make up.

Well if the two parties agree to it, I see no problem with it tbh. Obviously it's not ideal, but if both fighters are game for it...then so be it.

You know that wouldnt surprise me.
There has been a few fights now between Cotto and Alvarez that have been between MW and LMW, there was the recent Garcia/Peterson fight between LWW and WW and I think Pacquiaos fight with Algieri was between LWW and WW.

I think many fighters on the B side of the match up will be game for it, as it could be a big money match up for them, but that does mean they may not be at their best I would guess

agree...i don't see why some people are making such a big deal out of it.

if a cw fight will be perceived such a mismatch, fans won't buy it.

Often it is unknown as to whether it is a mismatch until after the event, as people dont know how a fighter will be if coming in light. I doubt many will beforehand that they wont perform well as they are not feeling great beforehand, as im guessing they would want the fight to sell

Not a fan either, but having day-before weigh ins where guys put on 15 lbs between weigh-ins and fight night has led to this. Would love to see same day weigh-ins return.

Catchweights are a product of the day before weigh in and rehydrate era. People used to fight at their divisions weight. Now they don't. Catchweights make a fight fairer so that naturally bigger guys can't cheat and come in with even bigger advantages than they already have. Catchweights happen more frequently, because competitors recognize that the system currently in place is unfair and prone to exploitation. Catchweights even the playing field.

I would want what is safest for the fighters but that may make some think twice about draining themselves.
So many divisions and we still have catchweights

Do you think it would have been better for Geale to have been at a catchweight or able to weigh in as a full MW?
