...but they want 2008 Oscar to face Cotto-Margarito winner?

Why it wasn't a notable win for Mayweather but it will be a good fight/win for Margarito-Cotto?

(Also consider that PBF started his career at 130 and it was impressive that he beat 34 year old Oscar at 154.)

first off, i dont think he won...
2nd, either margo or cotto would make him fight his heart out, him and mayweather were playing pattycake after promising a fight of the year...
3rd, maybe a good ass whoopin will retire oscar for good...
4th, i dont even want the winner to fight oscar, i would preffer them to fight paul williams, or the winner of zab vs clottey...

i could go on and on bro, but me personally, i dont wanna see that fight......

Most of the people calling for Oscar vs the winner of Cotto vs Williams see it as a good fight for Oscar, not for the other guy.

Cotto is active; Floyd was not. It's one thing to face less-than-premier opposition if you're active, but if you're only going to fight once a year, it should be against a very dangerous opponent rather than a has-been.

Double standards that's why. It's the same reason why people say PBF-Zab was a **** fight and win but Cotto-Zab it was a great win for Cotto. The same reason why people discredit PBF's win over a old Oscar at 154 his first time at that weight I might add but say Cotto's win over and even older Mosley was better.

PBF does suffer from a lot of double standards, but that's a consequence of being an elite talent and not being likeable. Boxers like Mosley or Calzaghe, who are lesser talents, get a pass because they don't put on an unlikeable Money Mayweather persona. On the other hand, that same act has made Floyd a lot of money; one has to take the sour with the sweet.

You think that Mosley is a lesser talent than Floyd? No way man. Prime Mosley is at the very least equal to floyd. IMO better but that is debatable

that's because Floyd had a choice to fight the best in his division...and didn't. He was the pfp best fighter in the world and ducked the best available. In other words he had options...Now this is going to be DLH's last fight and Cotto already fought the best at 147, so what's left? Maybe Cotto vs Berto...if Berto wins...but that won't happen until late 2009 or 2010

Well, Mayweather fought twice in 2005, twice in 2006 and twice in 2007. For that average guys at top level, that is "active".

(I'm talking about the Oscar-Mayweather fight in 2007.)

Cotto has fought real competition at 147. But Margarito has fought fringe contender Kermit "I beat Mark Suarez" Cintron and barely defeated Joshua Clottey.

You are talking about "deserving" a fight with De la Hoya like it is a prize to fight De la Hoya.

Cotto is the #1 welterweight but Margarito IS NOT the #2. Paul Williams beat him and would deserve that #2 place. Shane Mosley, who gave Cotto a very very close fight, would also deserve more that #2.

    Good argument.

What's left? Hmmm...Paul Williams, or maybe a rematch with Mosley.

No, **** Berto. Cotto should fight De la Hoya before him.

I didnt realsie many were calling for a Cotto/Marg fight. If that is the case then yeah - double standards!!

I thought PBF - Oscar was a fight worth having in 2007. Thought a rematch would be pointless though

Twice a year is pathetic unless you're facing extremely threatening opposition.
