Why so many people criticized PBF for fighting Oscar in 2007 but....

Also, I think the obvious answer to this question is that DLH against either Cotto or Marg are great stylistic match ups. Styles make fights, right, well these fights have back and forth exchanges and possible knock outs ridden all over them. :good

You can also use the double-standard of "why is Floyd criticized for fighting the top guy in a weight class below him in Hatton?", when Oscar is looking to fight a welterweight (or smaller) moving up for the 3rd straight time?

As a fan of all the boxers we are speaking of, and maybe less of a fan of Floyd's than the above, I have to say I take nothing away from Floyd's victory over DLH. That's the best name he ever faced and even past prime the best boxer he ever faced. Great chess match in which the younger Kasparov came out on top but a future classic for sure. I really don't think Oscar is as over the hill as people claim but think that Floyd made him look over the hill. However, on Oscar's defence, he fought a bad plan, had shitty Roach in his corner rather than Mayweather, went in blasting power shots at the air because Roach thought best way to beat Mayweather was to overpower him. Not blaming it on the corner, but damn, Mayweather Sr. has been with DLH for years and does anyone think Sr. would have given the same advice?

The difference is in the quality of the opposition. Bringing up Hatton is different than bringing up P4P#1. Mosley was dangerous as hell being brought up 2 weight classes to fight Oscar. When DLH did it the opposition was still risky as hell.

There's no double standard here, some of you are just not paying attention.

Simply put Floyd has been accused of ducking Cotto and Margo when he cherry-picked Hatton and DLH instead.

You may disagree with this, but the perception has been that Cotto and Margo were bigger threats to PBF

    It's really that simple:deal

Mosley already had a couple fights at 147 and at least beat a solid veteran in Rivera.

I'm talking about recently, which is what the original thread starter was talking about. Mayweather/Forbes/Cotto/Margarito were no more established above 147 than Hatton above 140.

I personally would have rather seen Mayweather-Cotto in late 2007 than Mayweather-Hatton, but the Hatton fight made more business sense (and was much easier to make) as it would be little Manchester in Vegas that weekend and I doubt Mayweather-Cotto have made as much money.

I personally would rather see DLH fight someone at jr. middle where he fights, and Cotto/Margarito winner to fight Williams (or PBF when the retirement sham is over), but DLH-Cotto makes more money than DLH-154 lb. title holder.

You guys tend to forget that mayweather basically had to fight hoya on his terms. Floyd had no real advantage in the fight beyond the fact that he had better skill sets (to a capacity) and the fact that he was younger -- although Oscar wasn't that removed from his best, still looked good in there.

Ring size, what gloves can be used, the fight has to be at 154 where Oscar had every advantage of size where Floyd has never fought, who is a natural 130 fighter not one who should've been at 147 who was killing himself to make weight. AND going against Oscar who, as history has shown more than once is hard to get a decision against even if you win or it was very close. The guys that criticize floyd do not take into consideration every disadvantage floyd had in and coming into that fight. It was probably the biggest balls move in Floyd's career but he gets no props. Floyd had been calling out Oscar for so long -- it was his dream fight that he would take no matter the disadvantages. People whine about some Margo fight. Nonsense. Remember how people were saying Floyd was ducking Ricky hatton?

Fighting Hoya at 154 with all those disadvantages is by far a greater challenge then fighting Margo, a crude, slow, brawler with a limited skill set. The guy does not have the power that Oscar has shown in his career against ELITE opposition -- not KERMIT who has limited skills and a weak will, Oscar has a tremendous chin which margo's is no better, Oscar has way more speed and a better skill set his jab is impressive, Great Defense, fighting at 154 a weight at which he has been since 2000 (and very comfortable) -- his biggest fault is that he gets tired down the stretch. Floyd would've outboxed Margo silly. What can Margo to do to Floyd that Oscar isn't worlds a part better? Only his stamina is what he gets points over on oscar, but he is a slow starter anyways. The guy has very limited skills, what is he going to do grow a ability to through a sharp/quick jab, gain better handspeed, and gain great timing with execellent footwork? No. Cotto is or rather was a much better fight for him, and him fighting Oscar was a big risk. People are just bias and merely do not like him, as a poster said.

I agree mostly with what you say but I don't think those fight stipulations mattered too much. Floyd said so himself. I think the glove issue is in response to seeing Floyd enter the ring at times with those gigantic pillows on his fists.

Well the ring size didn't help him and the fight being at 154, is a big advantage to Oscar. Needless to say, all the hate for Floyds decision is foolish. Margo does not have the skillset to defeat or be competition for Floyd. Cotto does though. Excellent Jab, good power, good timing, and good footwork.

Depends on what you mean by "notable" and "good".

Notable or good, in terms of pugilistic performance, depends either on how one perceives DLH at this stage of his career or how he compares to other fighters or both. Opinions vary.

Notable or good, from a business standpoint, is less controversial and self-explanatory as there are not many showcases on the boxing scene that are as visible as Oscar's.

Cotto or Margarito fighting Oscar is good business. Now is beating DLH an achievement?

Yes or no, the answer shouldn't be different than when the same question refers instead to Mayweather otherwise we'd be dealing here with another case of double standards.

People are confused, i dont remember anyone complaining about oscar vs floyd, people only started complaining when there were talks of de la hoya- pbf 2, that was when they started criticizing floyd because he had already beaten oscar.
