Ive seen many on this site have him rated over Tyson in heavyweight rank I know people are entitled to their opinion, but that is just senseless to me. Of course i rate tunney higher p4p. No way does it make sense at heavyweight though.

    It's ludicrous.

Tyson stormed and eviscerated the division worse than even Dempsey (who did a pretty damn good job himself).

Tunney beat a past-it contender in Gibbons, a shot, blind middleweight in Greb and retired heavy champ who was living fat on the hog. Not to demean the great Gene Tunney but it really doesn't compare to Tyson's accomplishments.

Everybody knows any 180 lbs fighter from the past can beat any heavyweight after Ali.

Dempsey did a good job eliminating the number 3-10 contenders, but Dempsey failed two fight by far the two best heavyweight contenders of his era....So I would say Dempsey did an average job at best.

I think only Bert Sugar does, maybe Janitor but his ranking are essentially in chronological order

i like him p4p but at heavyweight, his resume is a little sparse. he did beat an all time great heavy in dempsey, but so did tyson in holmes and you could argue that they were equally shopworn. in addition, tyson dominated his era and tunney didn't. past their best wins at heavyweight, tyson's resume blows tunney's out of the water. at least imo

    Yes, it was Bert Sugar.

I'm a big Tunney fan, but getting the title was a cherry on top of his career.
