I've frequently read where posters say they don't consider the WBO legitimate? Is there a reason why?

I too consider Tom Schwarz the 3rd best heavyweight, with all his high quality wins, and I don't think anyone could dispute Jeff Horns place, as a top 10 Middleweight.

Oh wait it's too late for April fools.

When you see them at the fights, it is my opinion that the WBO guys look more like criminals than do the reps from other sanctioning bodies.

Not just Eubank but it seem that it was the UK boxing scene in general that seem to gladly embrace the WBO in their early days. There seem to be so many WBO title fights involving British fighters that it was like the WBO were based there. The WBO have a lot to thank the UK for in achieving its current legitimacy and recognition on the world boxing scene.

Spot on there Ken .It was def a British type of Belt in the 90s early 2000 s .It gave a good few of our fighter's a chance to win a belt .But in my opinion we certainly didn't need yet another organization chucking belts an title s around .It could only get worst ..and it did .

I despise all of the sanctioning bodies more or less equally!

If it isn't one of the original belts (WBA, WBC, Ring) or lineal, it doesn't count.

I’m glad that Ring Magazine is still around but really, it stopped being ‘the Bible of Boxing’ a long time ago. Being awarded a Ring belt, IMO, doesn’t have the prestige or importance that it once did.

Talking about the Ring though really reminds me how much I miss the days where there were 3 or 4 boxing magazines you could buy every month on the newsstands.

I remember magazines, and unlike payphones I remember them fondly. But the internet is so much better...

I don't know about nowadays, but it was kind of a joke in the late 80s/early 90s because there were already three established world sanctioning organizations when it formed. Also, it seemed to be a vehicle for unproven Kronk fighters to hold a "world title. " see Michael Moorer, Gerald McClellan, Lorenzo Barber, etc. Moorer and McClellan did move on to more legitimate titles later on.

I don't hate the WBO anymore or any less than the WBA, WBC and IBF. They should've all been scrapped a long time ago as the culprits who devalued our sport. Also, when mentioning the Brits, remember how holding a British title meant something? And lets not even talk about winning 3 title fights which would give you the Lonsdale Belt outright. Moreover, the Commonwealth and European titles were the gateway to a world title fight. Man, you were something back then. It really showed how they cheapened things when fighters began bypassing British/Commonwealth/Euro titles because they had the fast track to a 'world' title fight and those regional titles were irrelevant to them. Again, how they have cheapened our sport.
