Even in mma tapping to strikes is frowned upon. Someone who has your throat and you can’t escape, no point in not tapping. In boxing it only takes 1 punch to come back
because this is combat. and in combat, gameness is the most important thing. thats why the best fighting dogs in the world, the best roosters, the best fighting bulls, all bred for gameness first. some fighters wont quit no matter what, others will make decisions based on what they would have to endure should they continue injured, and others would think of their safety first, forget everything else. all of them are free to be whichever fighter they are. and we are free to elevate the special ones above the rest. just like its always been when dealing with combat and combat sports.
Different boxing cultures probably. In the Western hemisphere the sport of boxing is a live or die sport. Fighters are held to higher standards than in most places. Where as in Europe boxing resembles the amateur style more. A fighter can get slightly buzzed and the fight is called off. Tyson Fury would have been KO against Wilder had the fight taken place in England.
It is kind of like being a new kid in school, your name is Waldo. You have a bowl haircut with bangs, your hair is straight. You wear high water pants. Another fellow wants to meet you after school in a vacant lot, his name is Rex, he looks tough with a brutal looking scar on his cheek, he also has a tattoo with a heart that says Mommy. You either do not show up or you do show up, you are carrying your Raggedy Andy Doll, you turn your back on him, you start preaching a Sermon on Peace, citing the United Nations, Rex hauls off and socks you in the mouth, drop kicks Andy, you do nothing, just walk away crying, kissing your Andy. Even the girls at school, the very next day gang up on you and beat you up. The local mutt that was walking around there at your No Mas Day urinates on you, reminding him of a fire hydrant That is to me what I relate to being a quitter.
Combat sports are the ultimate expression of masculinity and toughness. You can flop and pansy your way around on basketball or soccer field. Can’t do that in a boxing ring.
Ref would have waved him off for taking his full count on the knee in the 9th round lol Meanwhile Jack Riess sort of smiled and got excited after he got his moment to give the count and knew it could be a pivotal intense moment in the fight. Best job in the world with the best seat in the house to be a referee up close and personal for a fight where two men are fighting their hearts out. AH. Why British refs are more keen to jump in I'll never know. It's a tragedy.
As someone who has dabbled a little with BJJ, that's just a really irresponsible and ill-informed view to have. Half of the holds and submissions are designed to do severe and potentially long term damage. It'd be like boxing with knuckle dusters. When you feel your neck about to break you'd definitely tap out too.
Yeah that's partially true, but definitely saw him getting **** for "quitting on his stool" when his face was visibly caved in.
