When ducking is this blatant it is a disservice to the sport to support this fight.

Because beating Vargas means nothing, actually fight someone that means something

as Roach said this is a tune up fight, the camp for this fight will be in the Philippines, Roach didnt want to prepare for Crawford out in the Philippines, its just a fight for Pac to have fun and make some easy money before he beats Crawford next year.

A disservice? Vargas has a genuine shot at greatness here and I for one want him to take it.

If this is seen a disservice by you that is your opinion. People thought JMM 3 was a blatant cherry pick but it soon became evident that it was not the case.

Don't get me wrong, Pac is a huge favourite here and rightly so. And I would expect Crawford to beat him. But in a choice between Khan and Vargas I prefer the title holder not coming off a savage ko loss.

Money and the love of fighting.

If money is being thrown at you to come back to take on a fight where you're the favourite, why not take it. Even a faded Pac is going to be hard for Vargas to beat.

And there's the fact that Pac just hasn't got over the fact that boxing scratches that itch, just like why Malignaggi keeps fighting.

Only at the Mayweather & Pacquiao level do you find criticisms of the likes of Berto and Vargas as opponents being "cherry picks" or "unacceptable tuneups". :-(

    People seriously need some perspective.

If you had Berto and Vargas fighting each other, it would easily be a headline attraction on HBO and people would say the winner automatically deserved a title shot. Yet they each may as well (in the torch wielding masses' opinions) be the #537th ranked guy on BoxRec as soon as somebody at the highest echelon deigns to face them instead of whoever people would rather see them face. All of a sudden they're bums and not top class fighters as they would otherwise be seen under any other circumstances.

First was a close fight. 2nd two were dominant victories with the 3rd being between the 1and2 in the division.

But anyone can be considered leftovers. I mean Pac himself is JMM leftovers right? Arguable 0-4 vs him.

I was disappointed in the Berto fight, I must admit. But yes that is a testament to greatness.

Obviously both of these are far removed from the Salka situation.

For a swansong it was absolutely fine.

I mean, by rights, he could've said "fuck all y'all, I've been in this for decades, fought loads of names, paid my dues, owe nobody a thing" and made his last payday vs. a Phil LoGreco or something.

You can tick off a few (maybe even several) better names than Berto that he could have chosen, sure, but it could have been a LOT worse. The former list wouldn't exceed the fingers on both hands, though, while the list of worse options is endless.

Vargas gave Pacquiao's closest rival (besides JMM) a hard night, and beat Josesito, Allakhverdiev, DeMarco and the formerly touted Sadam Ali.

Yet people act like Pac is returning to face Jesse Feliciano instead of Jessie Vargas.

    God boxing fans are spoiled.
