Why the call for Dawson?

    If JC decides to have another fight is Dawson REALLY the best anyone can come up with? He's a decent fighter of course, but beating Dawson wouldn't improve JC's legacy, nor would it earn him a heap of cash.Let's see Dawson look impressive against someone better than Tarver, then maybe.

    Of course, had Pavilk not been thrashed by old Borenard, he'd be the poster boy for the anti-Calzaghe brigade.

    Realistically the toughest fight out there for calzaghe would be a Kessler rematch, but I can't see that happening as the first fight wasn't close enough. And who wants to see Borenard having another go in a snoozefest? Jermain Taylor was a definate 'no thanks' when offered a Calzaghe fight for $6m a couple of years ago. Lacy? Errr.....

    Calzaghe has cleaned up. Might as well retire before nature takes it's toll and he starts to slow down

    Dawson is considered by many to be the next great talent, and is still an up and commer. I would be very interested in seeing this fight. Dawson is slick, crafty , and quick, also a southpaw, so I think it would make for an interesting fight.

    Its better then watching JC beat up on some more past-it old guys and running around telling everyone how great he is. Why doesnt he fight a dangerous opponent in his prime to make a closing statement.

    It has been obvious since the Adamek fight -- and keep in mind that this is a better win than anything on Kessler's record -- that Dawson was Joe's most difficult matchup.

    Calzaghe now can retire, fight Hopkins in a rematch (ughh) or Dawson. Granted, Chad doesn't bring a lot of money to the table, but perhaps Showtime will invest heavily to really make Chad a star.

    I doubt it will happen, though.

    Dawson is to high of a risk and to little of a reward. Apart from Kessler he's probally the one out there who can beat Calzaghe. Actually the Hopkins that turned up to fight Pavlik would beat Calzaghe!

    there no point fighting dawson if he wins people will say dawson is overated, calzaghe should retire he is past his best now.

    But if JC beat Dawson reasonably easily everyone would say it doesn't prove anything as Dawson wasn't as good as we thought,ala Lacy and Kessler. A Dawson fight wouldn't excite the Britsh public whatsoever and I would suggest it wouldn't excite the mainstream Americans either

    The most educated fans would give Calzaghe lots of credit. I give Joe full respect for beating Lacy and Kessler. He took on guys who either were favored or slight underdogs to beat him, and he clearly took both.

    Dawson is not an untested prospect. Wins over Tarver, Johnson, Harding and a prime, undefeated Adamek all are very solid.

    And in terms of styles, Chad matches up well against Joe. I'd favor Calzaghe 60/40 in Wales, but it would be a competitive fight.

    True, but we all know the 'educated fans' are in a very small minority.

    I'm not saying dawson isn't a good fighter, he is, but it wouldn't be a 'big fight' in the true sense of the word
