I am giving the man a chance. I am just saying he is not as proven as Kessler, I'm not saying he sucks.
This board is seriously worse than a Partisan US politics board. Personally, as an Aussie with no alliegances to any countries fighters involved: Dawson is the only fighter I wanted to see Joe C fight at 175. Dawson is the man at 175, that's a young lion, with power and a southpaw too. Why would Joe want to fight him when he's fighting the seniors bracket? Roy Jones has been over for a long time, Hopkins is 43 and still managed to eek a decision out on more than a few scorecards, but I thought Joe won the fight on activity alone. That said - What has Joe got left to prove? He's hardly going to win over many more people on the west side of the Atlantic, the only geriatrics he hasn't beat up are Johnson and Holyfield - I think Glenn Johnson had the best chance and style to beat Joe from the seniors set. Joe doesn't want that sorta fight and it's not going to make any money. Neither would Dawson really, unless it was a "Goodbye Cardiff" fight in Wales or something. Calzaghe taunting Jones Jnr will do nothing to make people think he would have beaten Jones pre Ruiz that already think so. If he really wants another fight I guess there's Johnson and Tarver who meet Joe's 175 age limit of fighting someone older than him, but he's beaten the "young lions" in Lacy and Kessler at 168 so what's the point? UK fans will overrate him forever, yank fans will bitterly acknowledge he's HoF worthy on his achievements but he'll never be an all time great in their eyes. I think a Dawson victory might raise his stock in some Yankee eyes as far as his 175lbs resume' goes but, this board is going to suck itself inside out with the woo's and the boo's depending on your point of view. I was not a fan of either 175lbs fight. Both were ugly boring fights and I would rather see Joe go all out and try to stop Roy rather than tyring to humiliate the shadow of a guy who would have dropped anyone who dropped their hands like that and taunted him 7 years ago or so... Yawn.
Yes he does he is American and is undefeated so that automatically makes him the new unbeatable God of boxing...similar to what Lacy was a while back and Pavlik was a month ago.
I would like to see Calzaghe fight Hopkins next in a rematch and then go after Dawson, assuming Dawson wins his next fight. As far as who that is, I like Cloud but I especially like the Johnson rematch, I thought Dawson lost, but even if you disagree, the fight was so close and exciting it demands a rematch. I am very disappointed that there isn't one scheduled. Is Tarver going to make Dawson fight him again as per the rematch clause? Ugh. Calzaghe ought to do it. I think Hops / Zag 2 in Wales will make a mint. And in another nine months, when a Dawson / Zag fight could happen, by that time, both Zag and Dawson will be even bigger names. And on top of that, that is a seriously risky fight for Calzaghe. But, even if he wins, they will just say, big deal, Johnson already beat him. He should do it though, Calzaghe can really clean up, make a ton, over these next two fights. I think he will dominated Hopkins more clearly and likely defeat Dawson as well, with Dawson's chin problems I think he may even stop him. But the argument of Dawson taking out Calzaghe is very strong considering his blazing speed so its a great fight to make.
You've yet to explain how Tarver or Johnson, in their incarnations that Dawson fought were 'more accomplished'. Both tend to be overrated on the basis of their wins against Jones. Tarver, in the two years before fighting Dawson, got schooled by Hopkins, didn't look great against Muriqi and huffed and puffed to a win against a truly appalling performance from Clinton Woods. Johnson lost to Woods, beat a Griffin that was losing to any semi-contender and won a couple of stay busy fights. Neither of the two were anymore than 'contenders' at the time, anymore than you describe Kessler's opposition.
