One common belief is that the death of Doo koo kim against Mancini prompted the change.

Is there any other info regarding this?

I just always assumed it was from the Mancini/Kim fight. Wasn't it changed to 12 immediately after they took Kim off of life support?

The Cobb/Holmes title fight was a few weeks later and that was still a 15 rounder, so it must not have been immediate..

there was a study done after the fight showing that the last 3 rounds of 15 rounders resulted in the most permanent brain damage done in the fight. however, the validity and scientific credentials behind the research have always been questioned

This also happened when boxing was shown on live television, and they found that they could show a 12-round fight in an hour time slot, where 15 rounds ran over. This was a big reason, coupled with the Mancini-Kim fight and the Cobb beating.

My thing is, fighters die and are injured all the time, regardless of the round. Also, they don't have fights on live television anymore. How many great fights and different outcomes have there been? Tons in my estimation.

Dehydration was the biggest reason. I have no desire to go back to 15 rounds.

There is no study, to my knowledge, that shows anything of the kind. Any study that I've ever seen shows that injuries are no more likely to occur after the 12th round than before it. Likewise, there is no study showing that 15 round fights increase brain damage either!

It was all a smokescreen to shorten fights to fit into television time slots anyway - and has been a travesty ever since. I can't count the number of fights that ended on questionable verdicts that would likely have been decided decisively, if fights were still 15 rounds.

Bring back the 15 round fight!!!! :good

Sure. You ever went 12 rounds?

You are obviously not a fighter. But a watcher.

Try saying that when you're watching Mayweather vs. Baldomir, or some John Ruiz fight.

I'm not sure . . . but what ever it is . . . the shorter 12 rounds made the fights more action packed . . . because fighters doesn't have to conserve energy too much in the early rounds to survive until the 15th round.

Just go to 13 rounds so there won't be stupid draws. I don't care how unlucky that number is, if a person dies because of the new 13 rule, chalk it up to superstition...AND dehydration..AND not being lucky.

They should also sanction a fight that fits a fighter's style like Bhop or Ruiz..no more than 11.

Past 12 rounds punches to the head start to cause serious brain trauma (Ie brain damage and concussions)

    12 Rounds is perfectly fine.
