Why the **** does Jim Corbett wear a thong? Seriously.

Corbett was not the only one wearing a thong. It was a pretty common thing for boxers to wear.

Could you elaborate a bit for the uninitiated? The only thing I can think you're getting at is that Corbett would have preferred fighting in the nude, but wore a groin protector solely for added protection. I'm afraid I find your post a little elliptical.

 

Yeah they were trying to have them wear something like shorts or something and most of the volley ball women pretty much stood as one and said NO, we will keep wearing our thongs lol. I was kinda of shock about that.

 

But the issue of the late 1890's early 1900's and thongs was not just Corbett, I know we used Corbett mostly for it because he was one of the few boxers to be film during that period or had film survived today so we get the Corbett thong image. But seeing Ketchel, Papke, Burns and OTHERS wear thongs in the ring, it really must of been a common fashion at the time.

If he's merely saying that other people than Corbett wore thongs back then, sure. But that only pushes @Journeyman92's question back a step. What this thread really seems to be asking is why anybody -- Corbett, Papke, Burns, whoever -- wore thongs instead of more modest boxing trunks.
