Look, this era of heavies is trash. Nobody knows these guys except us diehards. As far as I'm concerned Wlad is the champ and everyone else is in line. I rank Wilder over Povetkin based on Povetkin struggling hard with a ****en CW. Povetkin is 36 and on the slide. He beat two nobodies who some of you think are somebodies, and Wilder just keeps on winning. Wilder will give Wlad a fight. And I'm picking Wilder to outbox Wlad. But, Wlad is more than capable of beating Wilder.:smoke

Should be noted Stiverne only lost to King because of a very bad stoppage.

 

Based on what? Brewster lost to Liakhovich. I doubt the other two would beat him either.

 

Arreola's only other decisive loss besides Stiverne came to Vitali Klitschko. He had a narrow decision loss to Adamek as well. Everyone else he pretty much waxed. An ATG no. Solid contender yes. Stiverne handled him with relative ease.

 

Yeah, its also like saying Ken Norton is a bad win because he got sparked out by Jose Louis Garcia.

Wilder deserves some criticism for his opposition, but the scope of it is way out of proportion. It's (much) better than Chagaev's oppo during his legit reign and probably not too far off alot of the other non K belt holders of the last 20 years.

 

Its not the first time people have always looked for cracks in the armor of a rising undefeated champion. George Foreman and Larry Holmes also faced a lot of criticism for these same types of things on the way up.

Wilder still has a lot to prove, but people writing him off like they are doing just because they have never heard of some of his opponents is wrong.

If you actually look at all the facts, his resume while not stellar is not as bad as some people make out.

 

Chagaev's single win over Valuev takes a massive dump on Wilder's resume

 

Valuev is a better win than any that Wilder has, but his defenses were even worse.

That said, I just looked over the ledger's of the legit belt holders since 2000 and Chagaev's is the only one that's about as bad or worse with 2 or more defenses. Brewster would be the next closest, but Golota and White Wolf (at least after win) were fringe top 10, Krasniqi top 15, Meehan top 20ish. Really substantially better than Wilders Duhaupas top 25ish and Molina top 50ish.

I still think the criticism is a little overblown, but that is worse historically than I realized, so he does deserve more criticism than I'd been thinking. Chaggy's were worse though (top 30ish Skelton and top 100ish Drumond), I doubt he got this level of hate for his defenses.

 

Wilder is disliked for a lot of reasons, I'm sure that his level of carefully selected opposition is only the tip of the iceberg

I try not to judge a fighter by what he does outside the ring, but beating up women isn't going to make me a fan of a fighter
