I'm fairly new to boxing and I'm not defending him but I don't really understand the hate. The Floyd haters make their point pretty clear...Ducking people, being money hungry, not caring about the sport...ect. Joe C Fighting no one, having pillow fists, this and that. Hatton more of the same. But DLH i haven't really heard any arguments(other then the tights and lip stick). From what I see he fought everyone and turned it into a very lucrative promoting company...Is it cause of GBP? Like I said before, I'm fairly new to boxing so I can't really figure it out yet. I'm sure I will get responses.
I think a lot of people, consciously or subconsciously, think he's soft for running from Tito for three rounds.
I never cared for him because he just seems like the preppy ass playboy type, also fake... i was young so that effected my views, also i am a vargas fan.... Now... to me hes just oscar... i dont like him or anything but i cant dislike someone that strongly who doesnt come off like a complete *******... and he doesnt. So i just say whatever....
Makes a butt load of crap of money, more than everyone here will ever make combined. Can have all the hottest chicks. Is one of the biggest shot callers in boxing history at only 35 years old. 6 division champ. Beat trinidad.
:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl So they hate him for that? Cotto ran for two rounds against Lovemore N'Dou. PBF runs away from Baldomir and DLH for twelve rounds.
What I hate is him lurking around preventing right fights from happening by using money as bait. He himself should fight the right fights at his own weight for a legit belt or otherwise he should retire.
welcome to the board and its a good post. guys like JC have fought no-one (you're right), but oscar gets fights he doesnt deserve because he's the biggest draw in boxng. however - i'm a big believer that this is how it should be done because, without that, people would be complaining that boxing doesn't get enough exposure. the bottom line is right now - oscar de la hoya fights put boxing on the mainstream map and, even if it gets in teh way of fights we want to se, it puts boxing on the mainstream map. like it or not, people have to accept that sport in general is a business, and boxing needs oscar de la hoya. he's a hall of fame fighter - but not a great fighter - but he remains the standard bearer for boxing and boxing needs him as long as he chooses to continue to fight.
He's hated because he is loved. No fighter today gets more love than him and that upsets a lot of boxing fans. Many non boxing fans are all over him and over the years that has become a bit irritating.
Because he makes so much money. He gets fights with the best without deserving a shot. It's like everything is handed to him and he owns the boxing world while everyone else is scratching to survive. And he abuses this power.
many people stay stuck in that high school mentality. you remember how there was allways those evious few who hated the guy who got all the girls or had the nicest car. they never gave you a real answer on why they hated him other than " he thinks he's bad". you find a lot of those emotionally underdeveloped people here as in all group situations. the behaviour is more common in women who cant stand to have a prettier girl in their midst (not all but most).
Because he's gets too much credit for what he actually accomplished, he was a media darling and was treated like he was the best boxer in the sport but there were many who were clearly better and more deserving. With that said he's a great fighter that couldn't beat the elites.
