Why the hell are people so big on that idiot Wilder right now?

Because he knocked out Robert Helenius? Anyone with eyes saw over a decade ago that Derrick Chisora is the better of the two men. Why has Helenius become some kind of bench-mark for power?

Because he scored some knockdowns against Fury? Fury hit the deck against Cunngingham and that Pajkick guy. Yeah, Fury has some great recuperative powers--his chin is nothing to brag about.

The Wilder nuthuggery is off the charts, especially in relation to AJ. AJ fights the best, win or lose, and Wilder's best wins remain an internet troll, a Mexican burrito mascot, and a Las Vegas hooker.

My guess would be that the anti Tyson Fury mentality has caused people to remember the guy who put him on his ass and smile. This leads to rose tinted glasses while looking back on Wilder.

Deontay Wilder was grown in a lab to make boxing pundits look stupid. He’s a min-maxed Fight Night Champion character who spent his EXP points exclusively on the "Straight Right.”

The man’s style is drowning in red flags and yet he just hits so goddamn hard that it doesn’t even matter. Tyson Fury spent 30+ minutes boxing his ears off in their first fight and two right hands nearly undid all of it.

Wilder is no longer the fighter those people made quotes about. That Wilder died under the weight of his own ego and Fury's fat belly. The same way "Iron" Mike Tyson was never the same after Douglas.

"To see a man beaten not by a better opponent but by himself is a tragedy." -Cus D'Amato.

He's stock has gone up considerably after the 3rd fight Fury, people seem to see him now as a H2H monster now. But yet i remember when he was considered a joke a few years ago.

Overall i think it's a bit of both Wilder was probably a bit better than we thought, but i think people have gone a bit OTT on how much he gets rated now.

He's still a pretty limited fighter skill wise who hasn't got many top wins against any elite fighters, Luis Ortiz would be the only one but again he's old, and he himself is overrated when he hasn't beaten any top Heavyweights either.

Overall i think Fury, Wilder, are both overrated in all honesty and need to prove themselves more against the top Heavyweights. Infact all the top names now need to fight eachother more and do a bit more proving to me Usyk included.

People like someone who don't give up. WIlder did that against Fury.

Wilder is still delusional and bad for boxing( mainly because of his fans)

Modern boxing fans are bandwagon jumpers. No matter what they say, Wilder is still the same overrated, limited boxer he's always been. Still hasn't beaten a live body in their prime.

While Wilder remains inactive and selective with his opponents then the band wagon supporters have only their imaginations to rely on.

I knew Wilder could punch a long time ago, before I ever saw him fight. I saw a guy fight as an amateur who was about 6-4, 240, and tough. He fought a good heavyweight, lost the decision but they hit each other hard for 4 x 2. I didn't think the guy was going to be a champ but I knew he was super tough. When I found that he was fighting Wilder in a pro fight I was interested. He didn't last but a minute or two. Then I saw Wilder fight, he does everything "different" but he uses his length and speed to set up his power. He doesn't box like other people, he'll lose rounds, he won't engage in a fight with a guy who can out jab him or whatever. He'll just create distance, not take punishment and at some point, knock the guy out.

If Wilder had learned to fight in NYC or Philly he'd probably be better, but even learning to fight in a place where there is little/no boxing, he has thrived because of his physicality. IMO, he has good stamina (some say he doesn't, but having a 6-9, 275 pound man leaning on and hitting you will wear anybody out), his power stays the same for 12 rounds, he's fast, he's long, and maybe fans don't think he is formidable, but I bet most boxing people don't want their fighter in the ring with him.

If I had a heavyweight, Wilder would be one of the last choices I'd pick for my guy to fight. There are no sure wins against Wilder, even Fury might well get knocked out if they fight again. Some of you worry too much about "names." Names are big to fans and writers, they don't mean anything in the ring. You can consider Wilder a joke, but I bet if you or some fighter you had invested money and time in were going to fight him, you wouldn't consider him a joke. A guy that can knock you or your fighter out at any point during the 36 minutes, and who can move is never going to be considered a joke by anybody who has to get in a ring with him, but from the living room in front of the TV a spectator can have that luxury.

Wilder has very few actual fans , his biggest fans are Fury nut huggers , they hype wilder up as the biggest puncher ever , just to boost Fury’s resume.

We need to add to the Bonze Dossier to remind people what an idiot he is.

And that he was being outboxed for 6 rounds by Gerald Washington

He got some begrudging respect after Fury 3 because of the tremendous heart he displayed and despite his many technical flaws he IS a very dangerous opponent for just about anybody.

It's the Fury nuthuggers that have been blowing smoke up Wilder's ass as the best thing since pizza. In reality he's a physically imposing guy with a limited skillset and a very good right hand. His management is also top notch for matching him against guys that he'd be widely favoured to beat.

Yeah this might be accurate. Wilder won a lot of fans through the fury trilogy. Both men etched their own and the others name in history across those three legendary fights. These guys will still be talked about in a hundred years. We can’t say that about any other heavies from this era.

Combination of him showing heart in Fury-3, the general public seeing that they were lied to about AJ, and a KO1 of former sparring partner Helenius to keep the "what if" dream alive. He's the only "athletic" heavyweight with a chance, albeit slim, to stop someone and win a title, which gives him a huge boost of popularity.
