Jones fought against Shogun and Machida at LHW and looked sensational, big difference.

That fight wont happen, though I myself would love to see it

Im not really using the actual calibre of fighters as the gauge of how he will go..More so that he had 2 fights at light heavy and seemed to carry the weight with complete ease.didnt affect his game at all..And the fashion he beat Griffin in was at the time god like..

The calibre and style of fight is very important to how you could Judge how comfortable Silva looked at the weight, Irvin and Forrest are both poor strikers who've been kodded senseless by counter strikes God knows how many times, Silva's forte. Even Keith Jardine looked God like when striking with Griffin

You cant Judge how comfortable Silva looked at the weight until he's been in with a grappler who will take him out of his comfort zones

Anderson Silva fighting Jones is Dana's nightmare. Out of the 2 "unbeatable" champions he currently has, one would get smashed and BOOM! aura of invinsibility gone with the wind. Yes, I would love to see the fight and it would be absolutely HUGE but sadly, all we'll ever do is wonder...

Dude, Silva is a 36 year old who doesn't speak English, has no interest in promoting his fights or the sport in general (to an American audience at least - can't speak for Brazil), and would be a huge scalp on Jones the budding mainstream superstar's resume.

Jones wins - that makes money and adds to Bones' legend.

Silva wins - now the GOAT is a UFC guy through and through, and Jones has plenty of time to recover. Plus in the unlikely event that Silva won, it would most likely be from a sudden KO rather than a extended beatdown. Getting KOed Belfort style by Anderson Silva would put less of a dent in the Jones hype express than getting beaten by the likes of Rashad, Hendo or Gustafsson.

    :hat

To say Anderson isn't a star is totally stupid. The man is a legit mainstream celebrity in Brazil and has drawn his fair share of good pay per view numbers in America.

If the fight happens with Jon Jones it'll be his last fight before retirement. The fact that his retirement is inimmiemnt and the UFC is scrambling to stop Jones moving up to heavyweight are the only reasons it will happen.

The dude lives and trains in Brazil and still does 60k+ buy rate in the States. Only GSP on the current roster does more buys on a regular basis. Just because he showed zero interest in trash talking with Chael, doesnt mean he's not promoting the sport. In fact, he's promoting the concept of respect and honour as opposed to taking cheap shots

So BJ beating Hughes added to Penns legacy but did nothing to dent Matt's...:nut

I think you can see how the loss to WW Matt Serra is still a stick used to beat GSP with makes this a completely clueless statement

There's so much at stake for both guys in this match that it would effect both their legacies.

Interesting find Stoo, I've always read Dana was totally against the Bones/Spider fight.

    Thats nice thinking, but....

A couple months ago the thinking on here seemed to be they didnt want any of their champs to move up cause they wanted to establish "super" champions as far as they could for each division

Add to that Dana coming out and saying that match aint gonna happen

Add to that Anderson's made it clear he doesnt fancy the match

If it happens though, what an epic way for Anderson to bow out

Except as Stoo's has highlighted he's come out and said that he's open to the match.

I've already made clear the circumstances the match happens. Silva on the brink of retirement. The UFC desperately trying to keep Jones from moving up to heavyweight 'prematurely'. They make the Jones-Silva fight as a way for Silva to bow out and as a way to keep Jones occupied. Either it creates a huge moment for Silva that adds the finishing gloss to his legend (and who knows may make him rethink retirement) or it gives Jones the win that makes him the next superstar.
