Because HBO didn't want to pay for it, which is the correct decision.

School me on how they're not paying a cent for this. Really, I'll gladly take it on the chin.

Its a Top Rank produced PPV. HBO doesn't pay a dime.
Top Rank is responsible for paying all of the fighters, etc...
All of the financial risk is with TR.

So the $ that HBO would have paid toward Rios-Gamboa remains
in their pocket and they can put it toward making other fights later this year.

Basically, TR is using the HBO banner to do whatever pleases them?! ...and HBO is happy to leave their name on the event, even though they know boxing fans don't see it as PPV material?

    Huh. ****ed up. :D

It no doubt is a favor to TR, probably because it was Gamboa that ****ed both of them.
Its not the first time HBO has distributed a PPV like this, though.
They did it for JMM-Casamayor amongst others.

At the end of the day its basically a Latin Fury PPV but does have HBO's name attached.
But I'd rather it be PPV than using up HBO's funds.

I guess it's not THAT expensive...maybe they'll stack the card further?

I agree. I would have gladly thrown down top dollar to see Rios-Gamboa....which was gonna be FREE. This is complete BS and another reason boxing sucks. I love it, but the bad decisions on almost every card and the **** match making is getting old fast.

...which is why it makes no ****in sense to me. Why sell it as PPV to a limited-interest audience in the US & Canada and broadcast it for free in Mexico where the demand is 100 000X more than where it's sold as PPV? Why not the other way around?!

I'll accept that it's happening, I just think it makes no sense whatsoever. Not paying for it.

Hey guys, you were gonna get an awesome fight in Rios-Gamboa for free, but we're helping Top Rank pick up the pieces here by putting Rios-Abril on PPV.

Why are any of them PPV? It has ruined boxing for the blue collar, common man. However, I will go to the local sports bar and pay $2 to watch it.
