i think it is because hatton is a myth...he is looked at like an ATG by mainstream fans and gained fame from the PBF fight somehow...plus he was the undisputed 140 king for the most part not a catch weight champ which siomehow cotto has to be.....**** if i know...cotto is so much better and so much more exciting to watch....he should be more popular but who knows

cotto is hardly mr unpopular himself.

MSG sells out every year for him.

hatton's popularity is a one off.

I see this fight doing better numbers than Pac-Hatton because Pac's on a big time roll right now and as long as he fights top fighters, I would expect his PPV's too steadily increase from fight to fight; starting with this fight. Obviously fighting Dela Hoya is an exception being that he's the #1 box offer draw in the history of the sport and so any fight after would be hard pressed to match the financial success of such a major event. Cotto has a tremendous following, abeit not quite the size of Hatton's however he's been on regualr HBO at least 10 times and has headlined successful PPV events. The fight will be promoted with an inevitable 24/7 installment and with Mayweather looming at a distance, I'd expect HBO to throw in the kitchen sink as part of the promotion.

FAILED! No offense but in terms of fan base Pacquiao and Hatton outnumber Cotto's fans. Regardless of his style, Pacquiao and Hatton has greater charisma than Cotto.

The fact that Hatton is a total pisshead is something us Brits can relate to as we're a nation of pissheads ourselves. Didn't Cotto also go out a lot and go with other women after the Margarito fight which led to a public dressing down from Trinidad or did the person who told me that get it wrong?

we are assuming Pac hatton will outsell Pac vs Cotto, Im saying it wont!
Im interested in knowing why posters think Pac vs Hatton will outsell Cotto v Pac I read this in another thread and I find it surprising!

    1. Hatton has more charisma: He does dinner party talks where he genuinely interests people, and engages their curiosity about "Ricky Hatton".

    2. A ridiculous sense of humour: He does stand up shows where people genuinely laugh to his wit.

    3. He is a stereotypical beer drinker: He is one of the lads to many people.

1 and 2, he is funny the first time but many people say he just trots out the same old lines, like I say funny the first time but if you have seen one stand-up you have seen them all.

Point 3 emphasises my point before

popularity is calculated by the number of people who like you, because that translates to how many people tune into your fights. the U.K has 60 + million, compared to Puerto Rico's 4 million, with a few more million in the US. if you could put Puerto Rico's furvor for watching Miguel Cotto into 60 + million P.ricans, this wouldn't be a debate I don't think. Puerto Ricans love Cotto.

I'd take prime Hatton to edge out Cotto at 140, but not 147.
