Because Cotto has boxing fans behind him and Hatton has Pop fans behind him and town drunkards lookin' for any reason to sing obnoxious songs and celebrate. It should certainly come as no surprise that the amount of boxing fans in Puerto Rico is trumped by the amount of town drunkards, pop fans and the like present in England.

Because Cotto's English is not good enough to be a crossover star and he rarely says anything interesting.

Even if Miguel had every single Puerto Rican in the world watching him thats still like 1/6th of the potential fanbase Ricky has.

Puerto Rico for such a small country has had many, many boxing stars having to share the limelight..England, well..their English. They grab hold of any remotely talented sports star they have and follow him/her/them blindly because beggers cant be choosers.

Cotto-Mosley and Cotto-Margarito did about 400K and 500K PPV buys respectively. Thats pretty solid still.

I would say that IN AMERICA.... Cotto IS as popular as hatton, and thats with Hatton having what.... two 24/7 series? And Cotto NONE....

What makes hatton more popular then Cotto is the fans he brings from his country... in which he has a legion of fans.

I think the Cotto PPV will rival Hattons, because i think Cotto is considered a better, more lethal fighter, and will capture peoples interest more as well.... When i was at MOS school... the only boxers everyone knew was Pac, Mayweather, Cotto (there were quite a few new yorkers who loved cotto as well), some knew Hatton, ODLH, and Tyson.... and they were by no means boxing fans at all (everyone liked UFC instead) but they were excited to see Cotto vs Pac if it were to happen as i told them it was rumored to be in discussion.

I think Cotto ppv will indeed rise to the hatton one, on his threat level alone.... along with his underestimated fan base.

Simple. The UK is bigger than Puerto Rico and NY combined.

So just compare US PPV sales without taking the UK ones into account. Simple.

Because Hatton had character which the people in the UK drew too, its what we call over here a "typical lad", down the pub on the regular, always making jokes and talking to people etc. I personally wasn't a fan but many people i knew were and when we all watched the Mayweather fight only 4 outa 15 of us were rooting for Mayweather.

However not many people i know are a Cotto fan, just respect his ability. Its due to his lack of personality that people can relate too. To get high PPV numbers you need casual and serious boxing fans interest in the fight and also the boxers having a high fan base, something cotto lacks.

Have you been to the UK before? U seem to have summed Manchester up pretty well

If Hatton was from London or down south in the UK, the following would not have been like that, and the chants come from our football(soccer) culture. But Mayweathers version in the post fight conference was pretty funny.

Hatton as more personality than Cotto..... also British fans are the BEST boxing fans on the planet!

If Manny Pacquiao fights Mayweather I reckon they should do it in Wembley stadium, I reckon it would sell about 100,000 seats there, I don't see that happening in the US.

Britain have an inferiority complex in Sport in general and Boxing is no different. Hatton is also good at selling himself and appealing to the more stupid fans with no sense that they are being manipulated by him so they buy tickets.

Brits will only support Brits the way they supported Hatton and thats why i knew Mayweather's visit to Britain to hype his fight with JMM was pointless. When all said and done Mayweather is not a Brit no matter how good he is.

I dont think colour has anything to do with it, Frank Bruno was a hero to most people.
