People in the US likes Vitali because he fights like a man. USA fans just don't like Wlad because he fights like a scared coward.

its about individuals, as with any country of origin, yes. KO4Clev is one of my top favs today, and he killed a Brit! but that brit was the fake Cleverly. I even invented a cool name in honour of Sergey. I haven't done that with anyone in a while. EVERYONE in Britain knows who he is, so no that plank guy is wrong,.

loads of brits love Shevchenko, because he played is heart out even when getting on.
loads of brits hate on Sharapova, simply because shes one of the biggest grunt cheats in tennis.

you'll only ignore this if you are paranoid or a jingoistic nationalist zealot.

Ovechkin is still one of the most recognizable guys in the NHL. And even going back into the 70's, most hockey fans knew that the Red Army and the Soviet National Team were the real deal. Tretiak went into the HOF without playing a single NHL game...simply because everyone knew he was that damned good.

    Back to boxing...

Kovalev and GGG are getting shown in HBO and may well receive some mainstream exposure as a result. Lomachenko's fights are being shown on HBO, and I have a feeling that Usyk might start gaining attention across the pond in a bit. Even Shafikov-Vasquez is getting shown, too...(though Miguel's style isn't exactly conducive to an impressive display from Denis).

Still, the networks and fans here in North America seem willing (for the most part) to follow the career trajectories of these guys. I think most fans would, so long as the continue to impress inside the ring.

White, european, doctors, rich, achievers outside of boxing, law
abiding, clean police records, charitable without publicly flaunting
it (ala Floyd) and they're winners. Not a popular fit with today's
american pop culture whiners and underachievers. If the K bros
were bros then it would be different.

They're dull. So dull. And not in an Andre Ward/ Rigondeaux skillful kind of way, but in a I'm literally terrified about getting punched in the face kind of way...

They have made the Richest Prize in Sport an insignificance.

    Let's look at the facts.

During the 90's Wlad amassed an excellent 31-1-0 record.

Won a Gold medal at the 96 Olympics during the 90's era. At least the second best era in HW boxing apparently.

Destroyed 90's legend and unoffical lineal and undisputed champ Axel Schulz who was in his prime. This was the first time Schulz was stopped. Wlad brutalized him inside 8 rounds. Schulz was coming into this fight from his infamous "three way robbery" trilogy of World title fights against ATG Foreman, Moorer and Botha who drug cheated in the fight. All three fights left a black mark on the sport of boxing but the purest of fans new damn well that Shulz was the true lineal and undisputed champ.

Stunningly destroyed Ring top 8 Phil Jackson within 2 rounds. Phil Jackson was good enough during the 90's to fight for ATG Lennox Lewis's WBC title in an 8 round war a few years before.

    Here is my 90's top 10 HW's.

    1. Lewis
    2. Bowe
    3. Holyfield
    4. Tyson
    5. Larry Holmes
    6. Mercer
    7. Wlad
    8. Schulz
    9. Foreman
    10. Moorer

Yo dino - charter member of the "the K bros upset me so much" :| club.
I know they're not one person. K bros, that's plural, meaning more than 1 person. I thought even a full fledged moron like you knew that.
Just kills you that two brothers from East Europe beat all your heroes so you have to go back 20, 40 years and talk about barely 200# HWs

Wlad's style is quite similar to one of your decades ago heros - Ali. Except Wlad is fighting 225-250+# modern HWs not blown up LHWs & CWs :bart

Sure Vitali is more exciting. However many boxing experts consider Wlad the better boxer.

To answer the question, Wlad's lack of appreciation stems from his increasingly safety first approach in recent fights; and Vitali's lack of appreciation (such as it is) is due to the perception that he lost to the two best fighters he faced and that his legacy is compromised somewhat as a result.
