People say that Ali was out cold and that they cut his glove to get like a seven minute break for him to recover, its not true. Cooper was a bum really i dont understand why he is a folk hero

Cooper wasn't a "bum", he was a world class heavyweight in his prime and British, European and Empire (Commonwealth) for many years. Clay (not Ali) got a few extra seconds rest but nothing like the several minutes some reports claim.

If the punch hadn't been at the end of the round, then Cooper would have finished him I think. Even on the stool, Ali is wobbling.

One of those unfortunate timings, it all could have been so different.

Thats he "issue" to me, if the punch had have happened earlier in the round then quite possibly Cooper could have finished the young , inexperienced Clay but given the punch happened near the end of the round I don't think the delay starting the round affected the result.

He got an extra 8 to 10 seconds watching the clip again - it was nowhere near the time that it is made out to be.

Smelling salts were also used on clay, and I can remember an article once commentating that they were illegal to use - I'm not sure if that is true or not though.

He's a genuinely likeable bloke by all accounts....that's why he's a folk hero.

If they'd had a cruiserweight division in those days he might well be revered as a boxer now too.

His problem would be that a lot of the guys in the Heavyweight division in those days could have made Cruiserweight as well.

True, when he was about to lose all his money as a name on Lloyds of London he was bitching like a school kid. All those years he took money from LLoys of London he suddenly forgot about.

He lost about five fights on cuts!!!

If the punch had been earlier in the round he would have knocked Clay spark out for sure.

That said, he was being schooled pretty bad up to that point!

Hasn't Angelo Dundee admitted that it was a 6-7 minute break inbetween the round and the tape was edited?
