Ray has a rep as a phony ******* and used Juanita as a speed bag. He just was better at the PR game.

Well considering Floyd just did the same thing they are about even in the PR dept

  4. This isn't really something you fall in love with a boxer for, unless he does it one time and that's it.

Duran signed the contract didn't he? Did Duran really have to take that fight after beating Leonard?

Thats some spin bull**** right there! What really happened was Leonard fought his fight and Duran got frustrated and quit like a biotch.
At least he fought him! You are acting like Floyd fought Pacquiao already or there's some kind of possibility of it happening in the near future. ALSO, Hagler was bigger than Leonard in every way. Floyd himself refers to Pacquiao as a midget. They aren't all that comparable. I don't see Floyd even discussing the remote possibility of stepping up to middleweight like Leonard did. Sergio Martinez says :hi:

    At least he fought him!

The people who count (us boxing fans) will never forget ultimate warriors like Frazier and Hagler.

I can imagine this. Only it wouldn't be a "gala," because Floyd is a homophobe. It would be at the club at the top of Mandalay Bay.

Leonard stepped up and fought the best. When one of the best beat him, he got in there again and avenged the loss. When Leonard retired, he didn't have to come back, go up in weight, and -- without any tuneup fights -- fight the Middleweight champ Hagler, who was a frikkin beast even at the end of his career. Floyd has yet to show this level balls.

Who cares if Leonard disrespected and taunted Duran during the rematch? What goes around comes around. Duran taunted Leonard's family before the first fight, taunted Ray at the end of the match, blew Ray off afterwards when he tried to touch gloves and shoved him, and then started trash-talking Wilfred Benitez while he pointed to his crotch.

Leonard deserves a lot of respect, but just like people accuse Floyd,Ray fought on his terms.A lot of people think Hagler beat him,and he said himself,Hearns should have got the decision in the rematch.Rays gift was he was a slick fast boxer but he could go toe to toe in a war too.
As for his image and PR bull****,I think he comes across as a cheesy mofo, but he is from a different era and was groomed to act that way.Floyd went down a different road image wise, although it sells fights it has made him disliked by many.Based on their abilities alone,I think their on the same level. If Floyd can beat Cotto,Martinez and Alvarez then his resume is up there too.

SRL did not get a lot of love before he retired for a few years either. Floyd will get the love after he his gone from the sport for a while...then they'll start telling the truth..till then he is the bad guy and the media and the media monster has to hate on him as that's the role they've given him. As long as ESPN is hating on him the casual fan will continue to hate...Once ESPN starts recognizing the truth and gets off of Arum's nuts and lies, then we can have some correct info put out there.

Historians were guys like Bert Sugar. We are just opinion makers and what we say can either mean **** or closer to reality. Sugar Ray was more than a ring general like Floyd is, he was more than a speedster and a dancer, he was a classy, smooth boxer and an aggressive, powerful and faster than light flurry puncher. Mayweather may know the Sweet Science and he may have some sort of charisma too but he will never be a Superstar like Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Oscar De La Hoya and Muhammad Ali were. It takes more than boxing, it has to do with the media, it has to do with public image, it has to do with the way you conduct yourself and fit in society.
