Back in 2020/2021, when Usyk was getting ready to challenge Joshua, Tyson Fury was asked if he will fight Usyk and his response was no.

Fury was then asked if he will fight Usyk if Usyk beat Joshua and he still replied that he wouldn't because Usyk is neither American or British and doesn't speak good english and that the heavyweight champion of the world should be either from UK or America. Fury essentially argued that he could make more money from fighting a fellow Brit or a US fighter than an Eastern European dude.

I remember a lot of fans being rightly critical of Fury's attitude. When Usyk beat Joshua in their rematch in Sep 2022, Fury tried to duck out of the fight by being tough on negotiations, demanding outrageous 70/30 split, arguing their wasn't enough money, and then going on to embarrass boxing by taking a fight vs an MMA dude.

Fury delaying fighting Usyk and fighting Nnganou instead essentially delayed the unification of the heavyweight division for a full year. If Fury wanted to make money in mickey mouse fights, he should have first fought Usyk in 2023 and then fought whichever MMA guy he wanted to.

Now i am a fan of Usyk and i have cheered for him to beat both Joshua and Fury. The guy is a first tier hall of famer. But the idea that he has a right to pick Wilder due to name recognition is absurd. For one, he has already made over a 100 million dollars in his last couple of fights. Yes, boxing is dangerous and yes, fighters need to maximize their earnings. But when you have a 100 million, you have secured yourself financially for life. All you need to do is put that money in an interest account.

Fury wasted a full year of Usyk's prime. Usyk could have unified vs Fury as early as May of 2023 rather than 2024.

Now we have Usyk who is wasting Kabayel and Wardley's prime by fighting a completely 100% undeserving fighter in Wilder. Sorry but no. Usyk would make plenty of money fighting Wardley in UK or even Kabayel in Germany. But regardless of money, it isn't fair to waste the prime of other fighters to maximize your own profit when you are already worth over 100 million.

Fury should have been stripped when he was delaying fighting Usyk and fighting Nnganou instead. And if Usyk wants money fights, the titles must be given to the winner of Kabayel-Wardley.

I don't care how easily people think Usyk beats Kabayel or Wardley. He probably beats both of them easily. Doesn't matter. If someone has earned a shot, they have earned a shot.

Either you care about merit of the sport or you simply are a fanboy of a fighter and you care more about that fighter getting another easy 50 million than seeing potentially good match ups. Its hard for me to believe that any actual boxing fan will justify absurd match ups like Wilder over actual deserving contenders just because they are more concerned about the bank account of their favourite fighter than the sport itself.

If Usyk-Wilder goes through, the belts need to be given away.

If it's about money, Jake Paul deserves a shot more than Wilder.
In fact, even without money, Jake Paul is a better choice than Wilder.

Wilder is so bad, it beggar's belief.

Giving Wilder the next shot is on a par with giving Dillian Whyte the next shot, fresh off his Moses Itauma performance.

Might as well give Shannon Briggs a shot.

**** it, let's book Mike Tyson - for the real money.

I can do one better. How about Canelo-Usyk? In Vegas with the large Mexican-American crowd. Oh sure, Canelo isn't a heavyweight but who cares? Its about maximizing one fighters bank account. And fighting Canelo is even more money than Wilder so why not?

Sadly, when you command money, you can do as you like. We are one level away from awarding fighters with twitter-war belts.

Wilder brings no money to the table, everyone knows he's shot, he was never a mainstream star in his prime.

If Usyk-Wilder sells big, it's because people love Usyk, nothing to do with Wilder as a draw.

Wilder always drew well at the Barclays Centre
He used AJ's name to build some relevance

America hadn't had a mainstream boxing star in the Hzw division in years so that's not a Wilder issue (although he has many issues)

Americans in general will not pay to see an Eastern European so somebody is banking on the Wilder support

This is my kind of thread. Fight the challengers or lose the belts!

Canelo was a catastrophe, too. The way he handled benavidez was shameful. We don't need that in a sport where the athletes compete once or maybe twice a year!

And legacy is kind of a **** argument when everyone knows and will see that wilder is shot. How much did old larry holmes add to tyson's legacy?

If you look up headlines from 2020-2024 Tyson Fury changed his mind on this topic an ungodly amount of times. "I'm Retiring, I'm not retiring, I'll never fight this guy if you paid me a trillion dollars, I'm open to fighting him for the right price, I tried to make the fight and they are avoiding me".

Fury did not have a consistant position about what he wanted to do. With Usyk you could discern a more clear and consistant agenda and plan from his words. He wants to check off the Wilder, Parker and Ruiz boxes and is going to let Kabayel and Wardley get promoted to full champion.

What Usyk is doing wouldn't be so terrible if the division was in a different spot. Fury is the one who started this way back in 2015 with the break and then when he finally came back fighting Seferi and Schwarz. But the division has been stuck in traffic for 10 years and Usyks made plain his intent to make it 12. Hes really screwing over a few dozen talented HWs. Look at the HW rankings its all 30-35 year olds being aged out. Kabayel won his regional title in 2016. Kabayel is an interim world champion whose about to get promoted. Kabayels the lucky one. All the other HWs in line are getting totally ****ed.

Fans are to blame for this. If the fans pay good money for real, meaningfully fights, then the thought of fighting Wilder would never come into Usyk's mind. I know if a Usyk/Wilder fight is penned, I am watching it. In other words, we get what we pay for.

You are one of the best posters on here, and I don't mean to be dismissive, but I say in a friendly way that you are wasting a lot of time, effort, thought and words on a very simple issue.

His next mando was to be the winner of Parker-Wardley. He dropped a belt because he liked the Wilder fight better. He just cleared the IBF, the WBC is not enforcing since they were not next in line, and who the hell knows or cares about the WBA, which is a pseudo-organization at this point.

That's it. He dropped a belt to do this. I hope he fights Kabayel next. I hope he circles back to Wardley. Hell, I hope he works Parker in there. But it is what it is.

That's it. The long and short of it.

Now, in your morality, you are not wrong. These guys do deserve their shots. On the other hand, there is one world, and there should be one world champion, one #1 contender, and a fighter should not be burdened with constantly fighting unifications, re-unifications, mandatories, interums and contractual rematches that they had to sign. Usyk wants Wilder on his record, and probably feels he owes him a shot because he said as much back when Fury wouldn't fight him, and Wilder took that seriously. You are right that Kabayel deserves a shot, but it is also true that Usyk deserves a chance to build his reign into what he wants it to be.

But now I have wasted a lot of time, effort, thought and words!

    Usyk doesn't owe Wilder anything

And its odd he would want Wilder but not Wilder's conquerors Zhang and Parker. Explain the logic
