It seems like the main gripe here is timing? I mean Fury made Usyk wait a year and the fight arguably became bigger by the delay and put more money in each of their pockets. Usyk has fought a hard schedule and faced the best guys. If he takes a soft touch defense I don't really mind. I get more concerned when a champion consistently takes on weak opposition, this would be Usyk first soft touch since Witherspoon. I think we can cut the guy a break.
He was winning fairly comprehensively before he gassed. next time, he'll come in lighter and box more.
He wasn't gassed, Wardley countered his jab with a huge uppercut and rocked him. The fight was closer than people remember, a few of those rounds could swing both ways. Im telling you it's going to be more comprehensive next time, Wardley was putting in on Parker in round 2.
Wardley was piecing him up in the 2nd I think you're underrating Wardleys, or overrating Parker. Parker might have gotten stopped in the 12th if the ref didn't jump in, he was taking a beating in rounds 10 and 11.
But the fight when on. And even in the round it was stopped, Parker was defending and even started to try to answer back again, because he had regained his wind.
I agree he should. But Parker never reached the heights of wilder, that is just revisionist history. wilder was a top 4 ranked fighter for around 8-10years and was wbc champ for about 5. The biggest fight in the world for quite some time was wilder vs AJ, not Parker vs AJ. Parker was a champ for about a year and defended twice
Wilder was champ because his team were very selective with who he fought. Parker fought the best - AJ, Chisora x 2, Whyte, Joyce, Zhang - AJ when he was unbeaten and Joyce and Zhang when they were the most dangerous contenders in the division. Give Paker that type of favourable match making and he could be champion for 5 years too.
1. Joe was never and will never be as big as wilder or AJ (the big names when he was champ) 2. Just checked boxrec (as his reign was nothing to remember) he defended against the wrong fury and covanu? Not really killers row is it? 3. AJ chose Parker over wilder at the time, not the other way round as AJ was the biggest name. That’s credit to AJ not Parker. 4. Chisora and Whyte are not anywhere near “the best”, the Joyce and Zhang were way after he was champ. And he had losses against them I like parker, he’s good, I thought he got a bad ref decision against Wardley, but he’s nowhere near as big a fighter as wiilder. The top 3 for years were wilder AJ and fury…nobody was bothered about Parker. Look I’m not getting into a pointless dishonest discussion about it “Parker was or could have been as big as wilder” he just wasn’t. and this forum is evidence and news are evidence, wilder isn’t in the press much and when usyk mentioned wilder the news and forums kept going on about. That doesn’t happen with Parker no matter how much he sings n dances for attention
AJ didn't chose Parker over Wilder. Wilder rejected the offer to fight AJ, so he fought Parker instead.
Reality is, both were offering each other fights, and both were not happy with the offers as these 2 were the kings of heavyweight, not Parker. So AJ chose to fight Parker instead of accepting or counter offering and waiting for the wilder deal to get done. we can go round the houses, but fact is, wilder was a much bigger name and champ than Parker. As was AJ. Or are you claiming he wasn’t either?
I claim that Wilder rejected the best offer of his career and AJ fought Parker instead. Wilder was a bigger name at the time, but he wasn't earning even 20% of what AJ was earning.
I agree parker was badly gassed. I agree he hadn't taken a lot of damage in the moment of the stoppage, wardleys punches had become weaker und unprecise at this point, mostly missing and lacking snap. But I don't agree that in a rematch parker would be way better. Would he choose to come in lighter after successfully bulking up for his recent run of wins (questionable against zhang btw)? Would that come without repercussions for his already mediocre power (bad punching technique) and (formerly great) fading chin? It would make it way harder to take wardleys shots. And he will take them. Because while Parker is solid at everything he does including taking punches, he isn't great at anything. Quick hands are not enough of a defense. And wardley is mentally so offensive and physically so strong that he will land a lot against any version of parker. I sound like a fanboy, but it is just the comparison of those two, triggered by overrating parker again. 1 usyk 2 kabayel 3 wardley 4 dubois 5 maybe parker Let parker fight joyce again or hrgovic. That should be competitive
