I was listening to a boxing podcast yesterday, and a guy called in saying that the PBC was good because it was free and it showed us young fighters against other young fighters. He compared the PBC to college football, where we see young players against each other. The show’s hosts just cut the guy off (and rightly so), but in the heat of the moment were unable to make a rational argument against the guy. Here’s that rational argument. A college football team is supposed to play against other college football teams. But boxing champions are not supposed to fight bums. The PBC shows champion Deontay Wilder fighting cab driver Eric Molina when fans know fully well that he should be fighting Vladimir Klitschko. The PBC is all about mismatches between a star fighter and an unknown sacrificial lamb who has no business being in the ring with him. College football is about teams in the same league playing each other in a serious, competitive match. Let's boycott this PBC garbage!
Actually the young fighter vs young fighter ****ogy is apt. Have you nit noticed all the undefeated young fighters fighting each other recently?
PBC has put on a lot of good cards this year but they have also made a lot of obvious mismatches, especially on NBC. As the ratings keep droppping, maybe Al will realize its time to step up his game.
Have you not read my initial post? The PBC has young champion vs young bum. College football has young amateurs vs young amateurs. You can't compare the two just because they happen to both feature young people. The PBC has mismatches between young fighters. They're young, but who cares? It's like saying SНIT is the same color as CHOCOLATE, so it must taste just as good too.
The have put on some good fights, but they're few and far between. Surely you've noticed that the number of good fights in boxing has diminished since the PBC was created. Al Haymon has basically kidnapped a bunch of great fighters and refuses to let them fight the best in their division.
Clearly you didnt read MY post. How do you explain all the 50/50 fights between young prospects that PBC has been putting on recently? Galarza-Hurd Colon-Williams(Even though it was tragic) Martin-Breazeale was called off at the last second Lipinets-Rhodes Starks-Figueroa And thats just young prospects, obviously there has been as lot of top fights between established fighters like Quillin-Lee Huck-Glowacki Quillin-Jacobs Garcia-Peterson Russell-Gonzalez Tomoki-McDonnell (x2) LSC-Mares
PBC is free? Can someone tell me where I can get a free TV and cable service? And free electricity...
NBC, CBS and Fox are free, over-the-air channels in the U.S. If you own a television, you can pick up NBC, CBS and FOX. Bounce is also free and over the air in major cities across the U.S. Haymon shows PBC fights on Bounce as well. So, PBC airs fights on four free channels. Which, a year ago, none of them broadcast boxing matches. Let alone title fights. NBC hadn't shown a fight in prime time before this year since 1985. Fox hadn't aired a fight in prime time since Tyson-Mathis in 1995. The last time CBS aired a fight in prime time was probably the 1970s. Basically, all the fights that were on Showtime the last few years (when Showtime was supposedly taking over HBO) are now on free television.
I don't know which college football games you watch, but the vast majority of every major college football team's schedule - which all get aired on free and basic cable television - are patsies. If they face a top team, they only face a couple a year. Before last year, there wasn't even a playoff. And the national championship was decided by a poll of writers ... not on the field ... unless the #1 and #2 teams played (which didn't always happen). And, even then, there were different polls that often had different teams rated at the top. Actually, there are a lot of similarities between college football and the PBC.
PBC,for the most part is free-but with PBC you get what you pay for-which is nothing for the most part.It has been primarily an abomination.:tired
If you considered Showtime's World Championship Boxing an abomination, that's fair. It's all the same boxers participating, and the same product, with the exception of the announcers.
College football has plenty of miasmatches and you can see a 60 or 70 point blow out PBC has had a few wars they had some poor fights
You may get those channels you listed, quality and availability will depend on your physical location and TV, you can't get ESPN or Spike though. About that free TV and electricity...
