If it significantly affected those HWs below 220 it would. So it really depends on the ratio between those HW over 220 pounds and those below that weight. Without that statistical data it is impossible to at for sure what exactly the impact might be and our statements remain unsubstantiated opinions.

    BTW
A 220 pound limit on the HW might encourage fighters who are presently keeping themselves at Cruiserweight because of weight issues to move up.
Of course money issues will always take priority in such matters and will very likely be the deciding factor.

Izu is taller than Parker...not sure where this myth hes not 6'4 at least comes from. Breazeale made him look smalll ..real small bc hes over 6'7.All these guys are big guys anyway you put it.Either way height is irrelevant bc its more about the weight .

How could Ali be a cruiserweight when he was fighting at 210-215 pounds?

    For Shavers Ali weighed 225!

First, there are way less weight classes, which boosts competition.
And at HW they have a weight cap, if i am not mistaken.

High BF% and no weight cutting.

Remember that Ali also fought at 201 pounds during his all time high (65-67)

And during his early years he managed to get as low as 188 lbs(!)

    Stats speaks for themselves.

If Uzyk for an example would fight at his natural weight he would more likely be around 220 pounds. But that's still small comparing to the Super HW's of the division. Thus an Easy Choice for him!

Why 220 as a limit? Reason being because, a 225 HW would then be a SprHW in your division. 225 as a SprHW? No.

This questions has been asked before, specifically when we had the K Bros, Lewis, and a slew of other big men. There were more quality big men back them, and a SprHW division wasn't needed then either. IMO that is.

The super heavy division was made in the Olympics because smaller HWS were unable to compete effectively with the larger HWs

Joe Louis fought mostly at 195 as world HW champ. The only two SHW which gained prominence back then were Primo Carnera and Jess Willard. Both were viewed as anomalies. Today they are common. So the comparison isn't tenable.

    BTW

    Earnie Shavers weighed 211 to Ali's 225.

Yes weight is what seperates boxers, and 6''3 is not too short. But it starts to become harder to compete with such disadvantage.

Just wanted to downgrade Izu's labeled height a bit.

You haven't said why you went with 220. Why not go with a size that is actually something more akin to SprHWs? I mean, if the whole point is to separate the two due to size.

When the Olympic SprHW's begin to totally dominate the 'regular' HW division, then you may have a point.

If anything maybe increase the cruiser weight up to 205-210 giving the smaller heavies a chance to drop down if they are not competitive.

    Because it's a stupid idea.

The "small" heavies could all easily go cruiser; they simply choose not to for the sake of pride and prestige.

Make an upper limit of 240lbs. That'd weed out the fatties and the freaks who no one cares about anyway and force superheavyweights like Joshua to boil down to a more competitive weight for their peers. There isn't a single top heavyweight in the top twenty that couldn't potentially get below this limit.

105 doesn't have that many professionals who actually make the limit. So yea, once you start talking about the extremes of human variation and size you start to see the number of men at those sizes taper off.

I agree that SHW is not needed. Most guys who walk around under 220 can boil down to CW anyways. I mean how many fighters do we have who cannot make 200? Very few are actually that big. The reason we even have anywhere near over 1,000 heavyweight in the first place is because too many fighters are lazy and won't watch their diet to make weight.

But if we have a division as ludicrous as 105 then by that logic we should have a dumb division like 225+
