Melendez is a durable opponent in spite of what his record suggests. Smith on the other hand was KO in 2 by Jermell Charlo who has average power. Lubin's opponent was an unproven nobody. Khytrov's performance was the most impressive of the night and no his power is not overrated.
Boxing has ONLY become an INTERNATIONAL sport in the past 2 decades. And only in the past decade did one of the major platforms for boxing, sign a European fighter to a multi-fight deal to showcase them on their network. Until the late 80s, early 90s, the USSR did NOT ALLOW their great fighters to turn pro. Even now, many EasternBloc fighter choose to fight for their countries honor, rather than for personal glory and fame. In 10-20 yrs, the sport will TRULY be an international sport, when China, Cuba, N Korea, and some of the Arab nations allow their fighters full access to promotional deals and professional fight contracts. The USA is undoubtedly the biggest stage to gain global recognition. And former Eastern Bloc fighters would be fools to not take advantage of the benefits being on US television would offer them. Guys like GGG, Kovalev, Beterbiev, K2, Kyrtov etc are taking full advantage of N American exposure, and it's paying dividends to boxing as a whole. As are guys like Shiming, Rigondeax, Lomachenko. Theyre signing big deals with US television, and theyre helping boxing come back. Now, while I despise Al GAYMAN for hiding some of his fighters, particularly from better EE contemporaries, I do appreciate what he's doing following Kathy Duvas experiment into Network television. And sadly, for Adonna Stevenshoe, it could be to GAYMANS detriment, since Kathy Duva can now, pit Kovalev vs Steveshoe on NBC, and then there'd be NOWHERE for lil biitch to run.
