Not just in boxing but in sports in general you will never see someone challenging social and political ideas the way Ali did. I believe this so because promoter have control over what their fighters say and in other sports sponsers won't let their atheletes say what they wan't or what they believe in (example Tiger Woods-Nike). Nike is smart and doesnt want Tiger speaking bad about anything(Bush/Iraq). I mean christ, Nike picks out Tiger's clothes for him before he tees off. That's why Ali will allways be the greatest in my eyes

Why would you want boxers talking about politics and social issues?

Muhammad Ali is the only fighter in Boxing history that I couldn't possibily criticise for anything. He was his own man, through and through.

When I see sportsmen try and talk about social issues/politics, I just think 'Shut the **** up and leave it to the people who know'

I want to see them box, not go on a moral crusade.

And you got to see Muhammad Ali box for more than 2 decades, and dominate his division, over and over. Join in with the appreciation and stop playing devil's advocate.

Agreed. I don't mind Ali doing it, cause he brought up good points and he was original in doing that(getting involved) but IMO anybody else doing it now is just copying. Thats why I like cotto, he gets in, does his job, and leaves.

I'm not saying I don't like what Ali did.

I just don't like other people doing it. I don't want to hear thick sportsmen talking about social issues, just stick to boxing please.

Cripes! ALI was a racist, mysoginist, fundamentalist jerk. He didn't have no quarrel with them vietcong dispite them helping bring to power one of the most oppressive (and racially bigoted) regimes in recent Asian history. "No vietcong ever called me ******"
    - they would have if he had ever met one. I could have like Ali if he had just STFU.

Probably will be someone as outspoken but nobody as witty as Ali. He was a genius in and out of the ring.
