It was a big surprize for boxing history. I did not watch this fight in 1991. Now I am curious that Why did not Tyson fight against Dpuglas for rematch?

Douglas had to fight mandatory - Holyfield and he lost so there where no rematch!

Because Douglass signed on to Fight Holyfield and if I'm not mistaken an agreement couldn't be made between he and King.

He signed huge deal at the time to fight Holy at the then new Mirage. I believe it was for $10,000,000 at the time.

Then he lost and retired, got fat, almost died then made a comeback that was much of nothing.

Tyson has a little situation called "JAIL" that interrupted his plans,lol..

I think he would have if he didnt eventually end up in jail. I remember seeing an interview where both him and buster were present and Tyson wanted it badly at the time.

Tyson kept calling his house for an immediate rematch, which Douglas didn't appreciate so he decided not to take the fight.

    True.

Holyfield was the mandatory and was overdue the title shot he was set to earn against Tyson that summer, and it wasn't but a short time after the Douglas-Tyson fight when both the WBA & IBF put the order to Douglas that he must defend first against Holyfield.

Because Tyson hugged Douglas after the contest, and declared "There ain't gonna be no rematch!"

Also, when Tyson came back after the "Bite Fight" , he was going to fight Douglas but the NSAC would not allow it, Douglas was a mess. Then he fought Botha.

If douglas waited he could have faced the Middleweight James Toney on his way up to heavyweight. They could have raced to mcdonalds together.
