Why Ward didn't fight Dawson at 175?

He would have then been champion in two weight class. His recognition as a p4p would have been then greater. Instead, he jumped on the occasion when Dawson said the fight could be fought at 168 (right after the Dawson'S fight) and when Dawson tried to back pedale, Ward answer was "no no", 168 is just fine, just like you said Chad.

Instead of going for glory, he preferred to just drain Dawson. After ducking Bute right after the S6, he took again the easy road. The guy doesn't want to go to England and fight Froch right now. Ward needs to step up because he is getting a bad reputation.

He knew he had to weight drain Dawson to win the fight, so it was at 168:tired

Someone should check this, but I remember Dawson talking about easily making 168 on more than one occasion.

Ward did what was smart. Sugar Ray Leonard waited YEARS until Hagler looked like **** against Mugabi before fighting him.

Oscar De La Hoya fought Bernard Hopkins at a catchweight of 158 lbs.

If you're the bigger name, and can command more money, why not stack the deck in your favor? In this case, Dawson agreed to the fight and Ward got a great win, period.

Ward would have whooped Dawson at 175. But since Dawson called him out at 168, he punished him.

Agreed, but at the same time, Andre probably should have publicly came out and said he would change it to 175 if Dawson wanted immediately after Froch bludgeoned Bute.

Ward in all likelihood beats Dawson at ANY weight, and if he ventured to '75 when Froch took care of the only unfinished business left at '68, he would have exhibited a display of true championship materials. Not to mention, he'd be getting far more credit for the victory. Too many critics, and other observers, are writing that one off because Chad was "weight drained".

I don't see it that way.

But the over all perception of Ward would certainly be greater had he made that PR move of sorts, especially following The Cobra's destruction of Bute.

Why is Ward always criticised? He is young, undefeated and #1 at SMW. His resume is also pretty impressive.

Because he is hiding in jokeland with his personal refs, and on top of that he was glad to drag the LHW lineal champion down 7 lbs.

Wards failure to do this, and his reluctance to leave Oakie, are somewhat puzzling. He's geniuine p4p. He should come to the UK and school Carl again. Even if he gets robbed, he'll have silenced (a lot of) the critics

Why move up to a dead division for someone desperate?, the reason Dawson moved down is because he had no names in his division worth considering. Only an idiot would say that Ward should move up to a trash division to fight Dawson(who isn't a name anyway).

Dawson was the one who wanted this fight. As Ward said on HBO boxing "I was on my couch minding my own business"
