According to BoxRec, Amir Mansour after his fight with Kuzmin tested positive for the drug buprenorphine.

Why was Mansour taking this drug? It's not a PED, is it? I understand it is prescribed to heroin addicts to help their withdrawal, although it's a highly addictive narcotic itself.

I'm not sure how would it work to help an athlete - wouldn't a narcotic slow an athlete down? Is it taken so the boxer won't feel the pain from his opponent's punches?

Wasn't he in prison for a long time? Maybe, he has some bad habits.

There's a huge problem with athletes and opiate painkillers across all sports. Not surprised that an older, more injury prone guy like Mansour would be using something like that, doubt he'd use it before a fight but it might allow him to train harder.

Painkiller are PEDs,anything that aids recovery and can make one train more is a PED.

I take it every day to treat opioid dependency (see my username,) this generally being it's prescribed use.

On a much less frequent basis it may also be prescribed as a painkiller.

However, since buprenorphine is only a partial agonist of the opioid receptor, full agonists such as morphine are generally preferred for use as painkillers since they are more effective.

You should also notice the fight happened in Russia and was ruled as a draw. Therefore, Kuzmin lost his perfect record. With the fight being ruled as a NC, he has his perfect record back again.

Great point, I remember duradola and Afolabi both upset the applecarts and they mysteriously both tested positive for PEDs after.

It's true. I don't know about "mysteriously," I'm sure they were on 'em, buuuuuut, yeah, we all kinda know what's up. Sturm/Soliman in Germany too, I believe. A few other examples that have happened and been in the category of "hmmm..."

Random thought: The Lebedev vs. Guillermo Jones thing was pretty wack on the opposite spectrum.

It was mysteriously because the moment they asked to test the B samples, RUSADA dropped their accusations. So to me that was some RUSADA bull****:

It has anesthetic properties, which is probably why it's banned.

It doesn't aid in recovery and arguably makes it harder to train.

Jones pounded diuretics to make weight, entered the ring as a fat slob, and still kicked Lebedev's ass.

Either because he had developed an opiate/opioid addiction and physical dependence or because he actually needed a narcotic for some form of intense and consistent pain. If its the latter, doctors presently only prescribe full agonist opiod painkillers -- legitimately -- ONLY as a last resort and prefer trying out suboxone or methadone first before they start throwing around 80mg oxycontin like its candy over something like sand in the vagina.

I know he did a stretch in prison so it wouldnt surprise me if he copped a habit to suboxone in prison and has been prescribed it as a maintenence medication since hes been out. Suboxone is so common in every prison and jail in the country it might as well be on the canteen order sheet, at least then the government would be the one recieving $80-$150 a pop for a full pill or strip of it instead of the inmates.

As crazy as it sounds they don't actually bother with finding out if any drug is useful or not they just ban anything popular among athletes.

Chael Sonnen one of those rare cases of an athlete who when caught admitted his guilt said that painkiller are the big secret amongst PED users as it doEs aid recovery and allows one to push through the pain barrier,I’d of thought this to be pretty obvious as Painkillers when used normally can mask a whole range of things.
You have your view and that’s fine but I’d take the view of an expert on PEDs any day and Chael Sonnen was an expert on the matter lol.
