Why was Calzaghe beating Lacy considered such a big win for Calzaghe?

Also, if pre-fight predictions and odds are the most important fact when deciding on the value of a win, then Pacquiao vs De La Hoya is one of the greatest wins in history, seeing as 18 out of 20 experts polled by The Ring magazine picked Oscar, and Pac won every round and stopped him.

Conclusion: There is always more to consider than some peoples' pre-fight predictions when deciding on the overall value of a win.

Because he was beating all the crumbs in KO fasion. That and the fact that he was hyped up way to much.

I for one never thought Lacy was anything special.Your best win coming from beating Scott Pemberton is not exactly something to brag about.

    because of the stupid americans.

i only watched ONE lacy fight and saw him as a no skill having wild puncher, i made a thread about it but some of the yanks managed to convince me that he's actually better than that.

Lacy was rated p4p top 15, check publications if you don't believe me, he had a more convincing win over Reid than Froch did and Calzaghe put on the most dominant 12 round display I've ever seen. Your just a 12 year old boxrec fan who has just gotten into the sport. Lacy was a better opponent than Abraham was at the time Froch beat him.

let be fair here, Reid was injured in both fights against Froch and Lacy.

Looks like you have another one of those "stupid" americans in your avy.So you were convinced by a bunch of "stupid" americans instead of watching fights like a true fan and make the conclusion on your own...and who's the stupid one?

Who makes a prediction on a fighters ability after just one fight?

Make your own judgements on Lacy's skillset in his pre-Calzaghe days, against a guy that Calzaghe dominated and stopped:

Why not?You throw that word around so loosely. So someone is stupid for predicting a Lacy win against Calzaghe?

Who makes a prediction on a fighters ability after just one fight?Thats kinda stupid no?

Knew you would have something to say about it. Both are great wins, the difference is ODLH was in his mid thirties and moving down in weight, he had acieved much more in his career though. Like I say you were the one who was making such a big deal about B-Hop beating Tito and the fact he was an underdog two weeks ago so don't change your tune now. This is atleast as good as that win. All three of the wins mentioned would only be possible for a great fighter though.

If pre-fight predictions are meaningless then opinions are meaningless. Therefore this thread is meaningless.

Lacy was a product of extreme hype and called the next Mike Tyson. Calzaghe was just an "unknown" white guy from Wales and a massive underdog. So 12 rounds of pure humilliation is actually a big win, no matter what kind of excuses people might come up with! Calzaghe was head and shouldes above Lacy, everyone knows that today. But Lacy was def. not as bad as people make him out to be, he just didn`t have mental strenght to handle a beating like that. He went down and never made it back. But its still a good win for Calzaghe
