He never made it above #6 officially. He was never a top 3 or 4 or anything like that.

 

I never understood why he was considered a top welterweight either. The man's fighting ability has always been limited and frustrating to watch. Even in his fight with Corrales(RIP), he had someone way past his best, fighting out of his weight class and ready to go yet he didn't bite. He would throw a few punches then stop, that's what he did against Cotto when he almost had him out on his feet. I remember hearing Kellerman calling Clottey an "elite" fighter long ago as he was mentioned which was hilarious.

in addition they always say well had he not broke his hand he would have won that fight, Yet ignore the fact that Clottey later said that his hand was never broken that he had a bruised knuckle that was said during his pre fight interview on Showtime for the Clottey Corrales fight.

They hyped him up Not me, though he is a solid fighter and was in the top 5....

its not a conspiracy everybody knows he ducked Pac everybody knows he has ducked the top fighters at welter thats why he retired, he calls it retirement but in reality he stepped back let all the real fighters do the work and he came back the moment there was one standing, and who had been through a **** load of punishment over the years.

Floyd already made a career high 45 million with Cotto. He did not need Manny to make that career high. Meantime, Manny only has a career high of $25.5 million with Marquez 3.

Clottey was factually never in the top 5...he was 6 not 5 man. Know what your talking about before you post. Factually, it was a retirement. Nothing there to suggest anything else. He would have taken on Oscar the 2nd time as he was the biggest payday. So did Shane duck Floyd at the lower weights, so he could fight Oscar who was the bigger payday...??? I don't think he did. And again, Floyd factually said he was retired from Dec 07 until about May 09.
